“Girl, you know my grandma won’t let me out of the house,” Mara said to her friend.
“Like that means anything, sneak ‘ya lil ass out the window,” Her friend responded, pursing her lips, “You goin’ to that party with me tonight.”
Mara sighed, “Renee, you know my granny gon’ be pissed if she catch me there. I can’t go.”
Renee rolled her eyes, “Then you can just come to my place, we don’t have to let her know.”
Mara sighed and gave her best friend a cheeky grin, “I’ll see you at nine.”
“That’s my bitch!” Renee yelled, jumping up for joy. She dapped Mara up and pointed a finger at her, “And you better not skip out on me.”
“Girl you know I won’t,” Mara laughed, moving her hair out of her face. She waved Renee goodbye and sighed. Now, she had to think of a way to sneak out of her house without Granny noticing. That wasn’t the only issue, Mara didn’t even know if she wanted to attend the party, but she couldn’t let her friends down. Besides, she didn’t have a lot of time left here anyways.
The final bell rang, signaling Mara was done with school. She got out of her chair and pulled her backpack onto her shoulders. Her legs were sore from sitting in the uncomfortable school chairs all day. Her eyes drifted to the walls of her schoolhouse. Old brick that nobody bothered to clean, bits of mold slowly creeping at the corners of rooms like a spider waiting to overtake its prey. Below the brick were lines of gray lockers with numbers on them. Some had writing to discern who’s was what, and what was who’s, many were blank and unassuming, just like her classmates tried to be.
Just like Mara wanted to be.
She loved having her friends, as any kid would. She loved that they wanted to hang out with her and do all kinds of wild shit together. But Mara didn’t know if she liked doing wild shit. She didn’t know whether or not her parents would be proud of wild shit. But, Mara still made a promise to Renee, her best friend in the universe (a self given title), that she’d be going to this party.
And dammit, Mara Lyones was gonna be at that party.
“Hey, Mar-Mar,” One of the girls passing by said.
Mara smiled, “Hey boo, how you been?”
“Girl,” She said, drawing out the word, “Mr. Evans been handing out too much damn homework and I’m struggling.” She sighed, exaggerating the last word.
Mara rolled her eyes, “Oh I know.”
“You going to D’s party tonight? All the girls gon’ be there. Some of the guys too,”
Mara nodded, “You know Renee wasn’t going without me.”
The girl chuckled, “You right. I see you then boo.”
Mara gave her a smile before hurrying off. She was one of the lucky ones, given she didn’t have to catch the bus to get home. The bus drivers were terrible drivers and they all smelled like funk, plus everyone was packed in like sardines and it was very uncomfortable. Mara’s house was down the street from her school, about one block. Her friends referred to it affectionately as ‘The Granny Cranny.’ It was an old yellow house with neatly trimmed rose bushes in front of the porch. The inside was plastered with wallpaper and velvet carpeting throughout, except in the kitchen and bathroom where there was old tile. All the furniture had plastic wrapping on it and none of the TVs had cable because ‘That stuff’ll rot your brain.’
“Granny, I’m home!” Mara called through the screen door as she walked inside the house. She took off her shoes and slipped on a pair of slippers, setting her shoes in a basket beside the front door.
“How was school, baby?” Her granny asked, shuffling into the front room from the kitchen. She was wearing a nightgown even though it was the middle of the day and her hair was undone in a slightly graying afro. She still looked as regal and respectable as ever, though. Even with some biscuit crumbs on the side of her mouth.
“It was good. I’m planning on hanging out with Renee later today,” Mara told her, starting to walk off into her room.
Her grandma clicked her tongue, signaling disapproval. Mara knew it as soon as she heard it.
“You mean, ‘Can I go hang with Renee tonight.’ You know how I feel about that tr-” Grammy Lyones started.
“Grandma!” Mara sighed.
Her grandma raised a finger, “Uh-uh, that lil trick runs around here thinkin’ she can do whatever she wants to. One day she gon’ end up pregnant or in a ditch somewhere. You’re too smart for all that, Mara. You have a test for your classes tomorrow, right? Tonight you’re staying home to study.”
Mara opened her mouth to respond, “Gr-”
Her grandma gave her a look that said ‘You better now say another word.’
“Dinner will be at 5, I’m going to bed early tonight,” Her grandma told her, shoo-ing Mara away so she could watch whatever signal the TV was gonna pick up.
Mara knew better than to respond, that would result in an argument. Even though her grandma had just gotten surgery to get her pacemaker put in the doctor said she needed to be under as little stress as possible. That’s why Mara didn’t argue or talk back, that’s why Mara was handling the clients who wanted to buy her grandma’s stores.
But that’s also why Mara felt the need to get away.
When she was with her friends she didn’t feel the need to take the lead and make everyone’s lives easier. She could just let whatever happens, happen, and they were fine with that. It was a no stress environment, usually.
At least until Mara decided she didn’t want to go along with whatever hairbrained scheme Renee wanted to pull.
That’s when the arguments and name calling began, and when Mara Lyones took it as her time to leave. Renee wasn’t the type of girl to take no for an answer, but she was also the girl who had to have an accomplice. That’s how they became friends. In 3rd grade Renee wanted to steal a book from the library and got Mara to help her take it, even though Mara didn’t realize what they were doing at the time. The friendship blossomed from there, it was nice. It gave Mara a way to go out and have fun and it gave Renee someone to keep her from ‘ending up in a ditch.’
Mara walked into her room and glanced at her watch. It was only 4 o’clock, meaning Mara had a bit of time before the party was starting. Her room was pretty bare. Pictures of her family adorned her walls, her step-mom and little brothers smiling. Her dad with his normal hardened stare. On her desk/nightstand was a picture of Mara and her dad together. Her dad was holding Little Mara, and she was wearing his glasses (which were too big for her at the time). In front of the picture, on the desk, were her dad’s glasses. They were as clean as ever, Mara made sure of that. One item was missing from her usual set-up, though.
’Since I’m gonna wait, might as well get some work done,’ She thought to herself. Mara tapped her watch twice and it transformed into her most prized possession. A tablet with two screens that she was given from her father’s will. The last gift she ever received from him. The note with it told Mara it was from her birth mother, that one day it would give her all the answers she needed.
Mara didn’t know about answers, but she did know that she had clients to email and homework for college to finish before she snuck out.
Five hours later Mara was climbing out the window of her room into the dark blanket of the night. Her hair was pulled up into a ponytail with two strands out near her temples. Silver hoop earrings adorned her ears and almost got caught in the bush as she clambered out of her window, careful to be quiet. Her outfit was something that no camper would believe she ever wore.
Blue high-waisted skinny jeans and a white crop top.
Renee text her that they had to match, and Mara knew what that meant. So, she went along with it like she normally did. The clothes weren’t her style, but it let her fit in and made her friend happy.
The party was a couple of blocks down the road. When Mara was two streets away she could feel the base from the music. When she was right in front of it she could smell the alcohol and see the girls staggering on the lawn.
Looked like the party was in full swing.
Mara made her way inside and found her senses assaulted by a combination of flashing lights, loud music, and the strong smell of booze.
“Mara you look good!” Renee’s voice said loudly over the music. She appeared next to Mara with two red solo cups in hand. Her outfit matched Mara’s to a T. The only difference between them was eye color and Renee’s hair was in braids, “Now let’s have some fun!”
Mara didn’t know if she had the same definition of ‘fun’ as everyone else. All these faceless girls and boys dancing with each other closely in a manner she knew her grandma would be cursing her mouth off at.
The drink Renee gave her wasn’t much better. But, Mara still drank it.
“Hey.” A deep voice said behind Mara. His face wasn’t memorable, but his teeth were really white. He walked up to her with a cup in his hand, his smelled even stronger than hers.
Mara wasn’t impressed.
“Uh, hey,” Mara said, glancing around for Renee. Seems her friend was long gone leaving her with this average stranger.
“Y’know, you lookin’ fine tonight,” He licked his lips.
Mara’s breath hitched and she took a step back, downing her drink.
“Yeah, I’m not interested,” Mara said quickly trying to walk away. Her pulse quickened in her body as her nervous system initiated it’s fight-or-flight response.
The stranger reached out to corner her, “You lien’ I know it.” He looked her up and down taking a step closer.
Mara’s breaths quickened and she kept on stepping back until she tripped over her own feet ungracefully. Her vision began to wobble and a splitting headache struck down her skull. It was only a few more seconds before her vision went black.
“What the fuck did you do?!”
“Man, I ain’ do nothing she’s trippin!”
That was all Mara heard before she lost consciousness.
“I’m disappointed, Maralia,” Her grandma said from the side of a hospital bed, “What were you thinking.”
Mara didn’t look at her, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“I don’t know.”
“You’re damn right you don’t know! I don’t think God up in his high graces know what the hell you could’ve been thinking! You could have died, Maralia, died! Do you understand that? I know you miss your daddy, but tryin’ to go meet him early is not the answer!” Her grandma scolded.
Mara blinked. It stung to hear, but she knew it was true.
“I’m s-”
Her grandma didn’t want to hear it, “Don’t start with that. You snuck out to a damn houseparty with that trick after I told you not to! People get shot at those parties, Maralia. Not only that, but you were drinking. Do you not realize how that makes me look as your grandmother? How it makes yo’ daddy look as a father? He’s probably looking down on us right now in shame, this is not what he would’ve wanted and you know that!”
“How do you know what he would’ve wante-” Mara started to yell. Her grandma’s hand moved in a flash to Mara’s cheek, slapping it. The look in her eyes was fierce and strong-willed. Mara couldn’t hold her gaze.
“If you think you can talk to me like that then you need to up and leave my house. This is your problem, never wanting to listen to anybody. I told you to get that surgery for your heart, not me! I told you to let me help you sell my shops, but you said no! Mara, you are a child. And as smart as you are I don’t understand how you don’t realize that. Just like I don’t understand how you can just try and throw away your life by going to a party where you know you shouldn’t be at!” Her grandma said.
She took a breath, “You’re supposed to be better than this Maralia.”
Mara’s eyes dimmed and she looked at the IV tubes in her arms, “I know.”
“I’m sending you to that camp.”
“What?!” Mara asked with her eyes wide, “You can’t do that.”
“I can and I will Maralia, I am the adult here. You will listen to me,” Her grandma sternly said, “If yo’ daddy could see you now. I don’t think he’d like what he was looking at. He always said, ‘This one’s different. She’s gonna be great ‘mama, I promise you.’”
“You don’t look so different from all those other lil girls running ‘round the neighborhood.”
“I’m sorry,” Mara said, a single tear falling from her left eye.
“I know you are. The doctor said you’ll be discharged tomorrow, then we’re gonna start packing. This is what’s best for you, I promise.” Her grandma told her, sympathy laced her stern, harsh words.
“Yes ma’am,” Mara said, nodding. She still couldn’t bring herself to look her grandma in the eyes.
“I love you, baby.” And with that she left Mara to sit and think to herself.
She was a failure. She was letting her dad, grandma, step-mom, little brothers, everyone down. Mara never should’ve tried to fit in and gone to the party.
She was a fuck-up.
Intolerable.
She needed a reset.
She needed to make her dad proud.
She needed to make her grandma proud.
She needed to erase the facade she was trying to put on.
Mara pulled out her phone, yes, she had a phone. There was a text from Renee.
Girl are you okay? You passed out after this fine guy hit on you kinda ruined the party but it’s whatever
Mara slowly hit each of the keys to send her response.
I’m sorry Renee, I can’t be friends with you anymore. Goodbye.
Mara pressed send and then blocked her number. Then, she turned her watch into her tablet and plugged her phone into it. The phone screen began to smoke and it became corrupted, unusable. Mara then waited for the doctor to come in, she had some questions she needed answered.
“Fly safe please,” Her grandma said, wiping tears from her eyes. She was at the airport sending Mara away. Besides the anxiety from driving all the way to the airport, Mara felt good. She looked professional, a skirt and blouse that she wore whenever she was meeting with potential buyers or college professors. On her face were he dad’s glasses, she decided that she was gonna start wearing them from now on as a reminder of what she needed to do.
A reminder that she needed to make him proud.
“I’ll be fine, grandma. Please remember to take your medicine, the buyer is coming on Friday so you’ll finally be able to pay for your medical bills. My phone broke so I can’t call, but I’ll try to email,” Mara promised. She was holding back the tears herself. She was leaving her grandma, the last family member she had alive, to go to an unknown place.
“I love you, so much Mara,” Her grandma told her, pulling her into a hug with more strength than she should’ve had at her age.
Mara sniffled and let a few tears fall as she hugged her grandma back, “I love you too.”
Her grandma pulled away and waved her off, “Now go, you’ll miss your flight. I’ll be fine!” Mara simply nodded as she walked off into the airport. She suppressed her worry for her grandma’s drive back, the worry she had of whether or not her grandma would be okay without her there. This Mara was different than before, she was more mature and fierce, like her grandmother. At this ‘camp’ she was headed to, Mara wouldn’t be there for friends, she had priorities she needed to accomplish and friends didn’t fit into the equation. She was going to make those around her proud.
As Maralia Serenity Lyones stepped onto a plane for the first time in her life, she had a look of fierce determination in her eyes. She was ready to make her family proud of the woman she would become, nothing would impede her getting to her goals.

This is the amount of SGI-USA members that are subscribing to world tribune.
I overheard this during a zoom meeting tonight. They want the members to push for more subscriptions, even the ones that have one to purchase more and give them out to guests, or even give gift subscriptions.
Sounding a bit desperate these days.

HealthyWage

HealthyWage is an interesting website...got a few extra pounds from the quarantine you're trying to burn off? I personally want to lose 30 pounds, but needed a little extra motivation. Well, nothing motivates quite like money!
The way this website works is, you essentially place a "bet" (at least $100) that you can lose at least a certain amount of weight (at least 10% of your total body weight) within a given time frame (at least 6 months), and if you are successful, you will get rewarded with your initial investment + a bonus (they offered me around a 10% bonus). You can pay out the whole bet at once, or split over the time frame of the bet.
If you're wondering how they stay afloat, this company finances itself via the folks who failed to meet the terms of their own bet. You have to record yourself stepping on the scale via their highly-rated app (iOS/Android), so no cheating.
For folks like me who have strong will power but just need extra motivation, I highly recommend this site! I made a...questionably large bet personally ($3000 if I can't lose my extra pounds), but talk about a powerful motivator...
If you use my referral link to sign up and place your bet, you will get an extra $40 added to your bonus for winning your bet!

2020.09.21 05:02 stevenqu248 The True Identity of Vanny

Okay, here's my theory about the new game. I don't know much about how posts are seen since I've never been able to find my posts on subreddits after I've posted them. They're hidden from me I guess and the only way I can see them is through my profile and searching for old posts. Anyway, ranting aside, here's my theory:
Vanny is the security guard.
Based on the trailer, the low-to-the-ground point of view, and the heavy breathing throughout (except after supposedly Freddy tells Gregory to "be still"), it looks like you'll be playing as Gregory in this game. However I did see someone theorize that maybe you'll play as the security guard as well. It would be fitting since that's the role you've been filling for most of the games. As such, I am also a believer that you will in some way be playing as the security guard as well.
But here's a conundrum. Based on the voice of the person talking to Gregory (unless the female security guard has an incredibly deep, gruff voice), and the theory that that voice belongs to Freddy (I believe the theory is based on the fact that it sounds like the voice of the VA for Freddy), we can assume that the animatronics are NOT trying to snatch children and instead trying to help them.
But that's not very scary. I mean sure, you have Vanny running around trying to get you, but if you stick next to an animatronic like Freddy, you won't be as scared, and he can protect you. From a gameplay perspective you could just use an animatronic's collision box to body block any Vanny's and evil animatronics.
This is where the title of the game comes into play. A lot of the past subtitles for FNaF games have always been double entendres. Sister Location being a sister location to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria and the location of Michael's sister. Pizzeria Simulator is because you simulate running a pizzeria in a "Sims" style. Additionally the pizzeria is fake (the ventilation didn't even have a way out. The building itself was simulating being a pizzeria to draw in all the animatronics). Help Wanted has to do with the traditional words used on recruitment signs posted in the windows of buildings when they wanted to hire an additional helper (or maybe that was just a "movie" thing and that wasn't actually a thing back then). Alternatively, Glitchtrap Wanted Help so that he could escape the game. In this game (Security Breach), based on the subtitle name, and the way Vanny tries to coax Gregory into meeting up with his "friends" (who I assume are the animatronics in the same way a doll is a "friend" to a very young child), I assume she has hacked (which would be a Security Breach) the animatronics to hunt down the child. Alternatively, if Vanny is hired as a security guard, her trying to capture children instead of protecting the customers could also be considered a Breach of Security.
Next I draw your attention to the alias for the main character of Help Wanted: Reluctant Follower. While Glitchtrap hasn't completely taken over Vanny, he has infiltrated her thoughts (another play on the concept of Security being Breached since your mind is a "fortress" and all that). Based on the teaser in HW, we saw a building being built that is supposedly the building SB will take place in. Buildings, especially 3 story buildings, aren't built overnight. Especially with all the stuff that had to be added into the place (laser tag area, gift store, a golden statue of Freddy), it would have taken a while before that building was open to the public. Who knows how much more potential control Glitchyboy gained over Vanny in the process. Maybe it has progressed to the point of being able to control her for a while (between the times of Midnight and 6 AM perhaps).
Looking at the two teaser images showing the security guard and Vanny, you see the lines "Protect" and "Obey". These would be the two motivations driving Vanny. She wants to protect the child, but the animatronics know who she really is/who's guiding her actions so they are against the security guard (geez, animatronics and security guards are like dogs and mailmen: bitter rivals to the end). When you play as Vanny, the jump scares will come from the animatronics not on Glitchtrap's side. When you play as Gregory, the jump scares come from Vanny and any "breached" animatronics. Plus the security guard and Vanny are both female, so there is that.
Oof. This started as a Vanny/security guard identity theory, but it evolved into a gameplay and plotline theory as well.
The biggest question would be will the plot drag out for 5 days. It would seem very implausible if you play as the kid for it to drag on that long. After the kid survives the first night until 6 AM, he could just run out the doors or wait until other workers show up at the building and put him under their protection and call the actual cops. After that, no kid in their right mind would willingly choose to go back to the building they were almost sacrificed/captured. The only reason he would stay would be if the dialogue from Freddy is a scripted event and he gets captured night 1 and brought somewhere. And he has to figure out a way out of the building. But no one could get lost in a building for 5 days unless he was brought to an underground cellar or something beneath the building. But then why go through all the trouble of rendering the whole place to that amount of detail if you're not going to be moving around throughout the building. Unless Vanny keeps capturing Gregory each night before he can complete his escape, I don't know how the game would be able to last all 5 nights.
Okay, new theory. -Night 0 you play as Gregory in the tutorial night that is super easy and you aren't likely to get jumpscared unless you physically fall asleep while playing the game. In this night, you are introduced to the various areas you will be in throughout the game as well as the new mechanics that haven't been in a FNAF game ever before (like movement). In this night, the animatronics are trying to help Gregory escape but in the end, Vanny captures him. It could have just been my brain trying to fit everything together, but since the camera angle is pretty low to the ground throughout most of the trailer, and the voice of someone is talking to Gregory (who is unlikely to be the female security guard), it looks like the face of Vanny in the jump scare at the end is also angled from above (since a child is smaller than an adult) indicating she's jump scaring a kid. This would be the scripted capture jump scare that removes Gregory. -Night 1-5 you play as the security guard. For some reason, you have been asked to find the kid (since the cops have tried already and/or are incapable of finding any evidence linking this pizzeria to the missing child) and have to look throughout the building for clues as to Gregory's whereabouts each night as more and more animatronics get hacked each night (to indicate the increased difficulty in later nights). Why nighttime? Well, because you're the night shift security guard of course. But this potentially invalidates the first theory. Unless....no, no, that would be going too far down the rabbit hole (pun intended).
Anyway, it's late right now, and I'm more or less rambling at this point. If I take any longer to post this, I'm gonna chicken out or find even more stuff to add (in which case I'll get bored of writing this post and just delete it out of an "I'm over it" attitude). I'll give it an editing pass after I wake up.

2020.09.21 04:13 PhantomPen New Neighbor

New Neighbor
As a preface, when my wife and I first moved into our new townhome, we were surprised to find someone already living across from us. We had been told we were the first to move into the newly built community, and "For Sale" signs still stood in front of every home but ours and the one directly across from us. The neighbor himself was nice enough, he was a curious man, perhaps mid 40s, with some receding hair and cleanly shaven face. He dressed in two-size-too-large collared shirts and dress pants that were so heavily starched they seemed to always hang around his thin frame. There were many small oddities about him aside from his clothes, but when we first met him I was relieved to have such a friendly, albeit talkative, first neighbor.

We met him on our first day at the new home, while I unloaded boxes from the small rental box truck, and my wife moved everything where it needed to be once inside. We had moved from a smaller apartment complex, and since we didn't have much to pack, the moving was thankfully easy enough for the two of us to handle on our own. The neighbor made his first appearance towards the end of the day when I was unloading the last of the boxes into the driveway. I stopped to take a break and heard the door across the street close. I looked over to see our new neighbor waving as he came over to talk. He made a friendly first impression, we talked a little about the neighborhood and the construction, and soon my wife came out to meet him as well. He introduced himself as Andrew, and told us he had just moved in as well and was glad to already have neighbors. We spent most of the conversation answering questions about ourselves, where we had lived, our jobs, if we had family in the area, so on and so forth. I should mention that to me, this was all rather casually brought up and the conversation was quite normal. Since the sun was about to set and we still had boxes to move, I mentioned as much to him and we parted in a friendly way. As soon as he was gone my wife started remarking on how strange he was.

To be frank she's always been the overly careful type, to the point that I'm the only one who answers the door, and so with this well in mind, I listened as she listed off the things that struck her as strange. She noted he constantly used the word neighbor (which admittedly he did), his clothing, the way he asked so many questions, and that he seemed to not have a car (which was true, his one-car driveway was empty and I couldn't see one parked anywhere nearby). She also mentioned how he seemed to hesitate and think for a moment before he gave us his name. If this had happened, I couldn't recall it, and chalked it up to her usual suspicious attitude. I reassured her that even if he was a bit odd, he was friendly and seemed harmless, and he was also our first and only neighbor. I don't think we mentioned Andrew again, and continued to unpack. We returned the truck after dark, and upon arriving home we went promptly went to bed in our sparsely furnished new home. Neither of us worked the next day, and we made another early start on unpacking. We ended up finishing before lunch, and as we made plans to go shopping for some necessities such as trash bags and cleaning supplies, there was a knock on the door.

Andrew greeted us with his same friendly smile, and handed us a simple store bought sheet cake as a housewarming gift. We invited him in and had a rather pleasant talk. This time I did notice his questions. He was like a child in his curiosity regarding every little thing in our home, and while at first we happily entertained him while sharing slices of his cake, soon it had turned into more of a home tour. Everything was a wonder to him, every knick-knack, item, and book on our shelves was worthy of praise to him. My wife, obviously annoyed, soon pulled me aside and made it clear that it was time for Andrew to be on his way. So after some more small pleasantries, I sent Andrew away claiming we still had more to unpack, refused his help, and he left with a smile.
I'll admit that while our neighbor was certainly a bit off, it appeared to me he was in fact trying his best to be a nice neighbor, and I reasoned this with my wife. She made the fair argument that he was creepy, and while I could see her point of view, I still found no reason to dislike him. The next day however, I began to see things from her side.

Andrew showed up at noon, bearing another store bought sheet cake and a pleasant smile. As awkward as this moment was, and much to the dismay of my wife, I invited him inside again. This time as a I served (some of the prior day's) cake, I made sure to impress upon our good neighbor that I had some 'errands' to do. This ended up becoming a tedious mistake as Andrew was eager to know of my errands, offering to lend me any tools or items I needed and so on. Eventually I had to wonder if this over-the-top display of constant helpfulness and interest was some kind of elaborate prank or hazing, but seeing the genuine smile on Andrew's face and his keen interest in my plans to buy milk, it seemed worryingly genuine. My wife had made some manner of excuse to leave us, and I began trying to ask Andrew some questions about himself. I say try, because I rarely got a clear answer. With each question his smile would give the briefest flicker as he paused before giving his answer. I soon gave up on this fruitless effort and the remainder of his visit was spent answering questions about everything from our kitchen appliances to our extended family. When I saw Andrew out (with some gentle verbal prodding) I was ready to admit it. Andrew came off as creepy, or at the very least, annoying. Reflecting on this though, I realized perhaps he hadn't had much luck with friends until now, and his keen interest in us was likely a result in what he saw as an opportunity for genuine friendship or neighborly companionship. When we went to bed my wife spoke plainly what was on both of our minds, that if Andrew showed up with a cake tomorrow, he wasn't to be invited in.

Sure enough, at noon, Andrew arrived with an identical store bought sheet cake and smile. This time I met him outside, and I explained as politely as I could that we were well stocked on cake and that he didn't need to bring a gift to us each day, or at all. I also explained we were quite tired and unable to have him over every day. I expected this to upset him, but he took it in stride, politely nodding and smiling. He told me he understood and we spoke outside for a while about random things. The one thing we disagreed upon was the eventual moving in of other neighbors. This topic seemed to dampen his mood the slightest bit, and he seemed convinced no one, or at least very few people would be interested in the homes nearby. When pressed, he cited strange reasons such as soil quality for our small lawns, or the way the sun would hit the windows and so on. I didn't press him on this matter, but eventually when I dragged the endless conversations to a close, I realized he was perfectly happy to simply stand there outside with me, smiling all the while. I made an excuse about checking on the wife, and mentioned in what I hoped was not a very subtle hint, that if I saw him outside in the future I'd be sure to say hello.

That night, when my wife complained about our neighbor, I joined her in venting. While he seemed nice and well meaning, he was exhausting to be around. She did mention that we would both be going back to work tomorrow, and so there was no worries of Andrew's noontime visit, and I think I slept better with that thought in my head. When my wife left for work at 6am, the noise woke me and I began a slow and easy morning, enjoying my coffee and the openness of the new house before I had to leave at work at 8. Eventually when I did leave, I was greeted by none other than our neighbor Andrew, outside of his home seemingly wandering about his driveway with a cup of coffee. He noticed me immediately and gave a hearty wave and a smile, and made his way across the street to me. Internally I groaned, but outwardly I put on the best smile I could, and we talked briefly before I mentioned I was off to work. He wished me a good day and still smiling, went back to his driveway and waved and watched me drive off. I watched him in my rearview mirror, and even when I was a ways down the main road, I saw him faintly in the distance at the corner near his house, watching. That was unnerving.
Work went fine, but as it ended I began to dread the trip home. Sure enough, when I pulled into my driveway, Andrew waved and made his way towards me but I stopped him with a brief and not-as-polite explanation that I was too tired to talk today, and went inside. When my wife arrived home I noticed from the window that she simply ignored him and came inside. She immediately explained how our dear neighbor had been outside at 6am in his crisp clothes enjoying a cup of coffee in the pre-sunrise gloom. She told me she was done being polite with him, and we agreed to set boundaries.

Perhaps Andrew understood from my wife's actions alone, but he no longer bothered her. Instead he redoubled his efforts to me, though thankfully after several days of using exhaustion as an excuse, he only talked to me in the morning or when I was out of the house. Understand that until this point, while Andrew was definitely creepy and certainly annoying, I still did not share my wife's hate for him. This changed one morning perhaps a week and a half after we had moved in. Andrew had mentioned to me in our brief morning chat how he had seen a stray cat in the neighborhood. I noted I had seen it as well, a feral looking orange tabby. I jokingly said that hopefully it wouldn't be around for too long, as my wife was allergic and for the first time since I had met him, I saw Andrew's smile vanish from his face. Instead, he was utterly shocked, he asked me how severe her allergies were, how they affected her, so on and so forth. He acted as though I had revealed my wife had some fatal disease. I assured him she was fine, and there was no need for alarm, but when I left for work shortly after, I could see he was still upset. The rest of the day passed by normally, but the next morning I was roughly shaken awake by my wife just before 6am.

"There's a dead cat on our doorstep" she said. I got up and followed her, and even in my tired groggy state I made the connection to Andrew. When she opened the door to show me, sure enough, there was the feral tabby, laid evenly on our front step, its neck twisted at an unnatural angle. I think she realized the cause before I explained it to her, but I went over the conversation I had with Andrew the morning before, and she was furious. She swore to call the police on him, told me we would get a restraining order, went on about how she always knew he was deranged, and it was all I could do to get her into her car and off to work before she was late. As carefully as I could, and with a heavy conscious, I placed the dead cat in a garbage bag and gently laid it in our outdoor garbage can. I spent the rest of the morning anticipating how I would speak to Andrew when I saw him, and I went outside a few minutes early to meet him.

He hadn't been outside, but he came out immediately after I moved to go down our front steps. It was almost surreal seeing him gingerly walk across the street, cup in hand, with a big smile on his face. Before he reached my side of the street, I said it. "You killed the cat."

He beamed at me, the smile got wider and the pride appeared plain on his face. I was stunned. He truly thought he had done a good deed. It was nauseating. I had been kind and polite and patient with this man, but no longer. I was angry. I told him that was unacceptable, that it was wrong and sick to kill a poor animal like that. I told him to stay away from us, and from our home, and to get help.

Andrew was struck stone still in the street, mouth agape, he stared at me. Furious as I was, I watched him, unsure how he would react but too angry to care. His shock turned to concern, he seemed hurt, then panic seemed to creep up his face, his eyes widened, and when he did speak, it was almost a whisper.

"Oh no" he said, and took a step towards me, "she didn't touch it did she? I hadn't thought of that, and I left it right on the doorstep." He came to me and dropped his mug. It tumbled into the grass, spilling cold coffee. He took my hand in his, his lanky frame bending before me, making him seem smaller, honest and true pleading in his watering eyes. "I'm so, so sorry, I didn't realize. Please, if there's anything I can do-" I snapped my hand out of his grasp.
I was shocked. He truly didn't grasp killing the cat as a bad thing he had done. The entire situation was beyond him. "You're sick" I said. "Stay away from us." I turned from him and went back into the house. When I left a few minutes later for work, his cup was gone, there was no trace of him, and his house remained dark and unlit as always. He made no further appearance that afternoon either.

My wife was overjoyed, and I'll admit I was a bit relieved. At times I did feel bad for how I had snapped at him, but those feelings instantly vanished when I remember the poor cat, cold on our doorstep that morning. I was glad to have him out of our lives. For a week we saw no sign of him, but occasionally I would see the window blinds faintly shift when I went outside, and I was sure he was still there, watching us. Luckily the for sale signs had been taken down from the nearby houses, and we at least expected to get some other new neighbors soon. I felt a bit bad thinking about it, but perhaps having other neighbors would help to draw his attention from us.

Perhaps a week later, with still no sign of Andrew, I noticed the books on my downstairs bookshelf had been rearranged. They were in no particular order before, but now they went from smallest to largest for some reason. When I asked my wife about this, she said she hadn't done it, and thought I had. When we realized neither of us was joking, she immediately blamed Andrew.
"I don't know how he got in here," she said, "but it had to be him."
I'll admit part of me thought the same thing, but in an effort to comfort her (and myself) I pointed out how we had changed the locks on the doors and how the windows were always locked, and there was no sense in someone coming in to rearrange my books, etc. We talked about it at length, and we both calmed down, but we resolved to order a security camera and change the lock again. The following few days we each began to notice other small things around the house, and I'll admit we started to jump at shadows. The day after the books, I noticed our front door no longer creaked. My wife said she smelled disinfectant when she came home. As embarrassing as it is, since I left for work last and came home first, I began to stick a very small piece of paper near the bottom of the doorway, so that if someone came in, it would fall unnoticed to the ground. The were other small things, a chair being slightly moved or our wall clock no longer being a minute slow, but the biggest was perhaps our bedroom attic.

On the third floor in our bedroom, above the small gap between our bed and my wife's dresser, was a flat panel that lowered and led into an attic crawlspace. I had briefly looked around it when we moved in, simply poking my head in and noting the dust, insulation, and nothingness before closing it back up. We stored nothing in there, and it was for this reason that my wife noticed it was just ever so slightly askew. Its worth mentioning that she noticed this at night when we were laying in bed, and neither of us felt very motivated to try to close it. To make her feel better I did awkwardly stand on a box full of clothes and try to close it, but it seemed to be stuck, just hanging open barely a centimetre. I told her I would try to fix it tomorrow and we went to bed. It had been another thing on a long list of oddities that afflicted us, and the terror had waned. The two of us treated Andrew like a ghost almost, using him as a curse when something fell or spilled.

The next day the security camera arrived in the morning, and my wife nudged me awake, handing the box to me, with clear instructions that they should be set up today. Off to work she went and so blearily I unboxed the camera, finding it was actually four rather small and rather complex cameras. I spent much of my morning mulling over the instruction manual, installing the camera's app on my phone, and after rummaging up batteries, I placed them around the home to test. I placed one in the bedroom on our bed frame at the head of our bed, looking in towards the room. One went into the stairwell on the second floor, and another in the kitchen, facing out the front doorway. The last one I placed outside, precariously balanced on the light above our front door. I made a mental note to affix it properly later, but I was nearly late for work and so I left.

When I arrived home I had completely forgotten about the cameras until I noticed the one I had placed above our door had fallen into the mulch by the side of the doorway. I attributed it to the wind, and my mind was at ease when I unlocked the front door and saw my piece of paper gently fall to the floor. It had been undisturbed, no one had entered our home. I went up to the bedroom, and as I changed out of my work clothes I noticed the attic crawlspace panel was still slightly ajar. I resolved myself to go get the stepladder from downstairs and fix it, but as I sat on the bed, the weight of the past week really washed over me. I was mentally exhausted. We had become so consumed by the constant worry of "Andrew" that we were wracked by anxiety. Every day turned into a "spot the flaw" in our home. What had changed today? What was wrong today? Was our neighbor peeking through the blinds at us every waking moment?
I felt like a fool. Even that very morning I had stumbled around in the dark placing cameras, wedging paper in my doorway like a madman, and for what? To catch someone who had no way of getting into our home? Someone I hadn't heard from, who hadn't bothered us, for a week? I sat there for some time, and looking at the camera on our bed frame, I resolved to put my mind at ease. I took out my phone and began watching the day's recordings on the app, starting from when I placed the camera over our door.

At first there was nothing. I watched myself as I left in my car, and then I fast forwarded slightly, resolved to see something. I eventually did see Andrew step out of his house. He was still dressed in his prim too-large starched clothes, the familiar big smile on his face as he seemed to greet the new day. I watched as he paced his yard a bit, examining things known only to him, and eventually he went to the yard next door. Again he paced the driveway there, looking and seemingly making mental notes of things, he went up and tried the doorknob, and seeing it locked, nodded and walked to the next house in the line. Eventually he went out of view of the camera and after some fast-forwarding I saw him come back around the other way, inspecting every house and testing to see if it was locked. Then he simply went back into his home. I watched as the camera kept on recording the midday scene, nothing of note, no cars passing by, and I once again reflected on Andrew killing the cat, how misguided he was, how very strange. Still I watched, again skipping ahead, and eventually he emerged from his home once more. Same clothes, same grin, this time something in his hand. He locked his door and to my horror headed straight to our doorstep. He didn't notice the camera, he didn't hesitate or glance around, he simply walked up to the door under the camera, and remained there out of my view for a minute or two. Eventually I saw the camera shake and fall, and I realized it was from the door slamming shut.

How do I describe what I felt next as I watched? I could tell you about the sinking, twisting feeling of my stomach as I switched to the downstairs camera, of how I watched Andrew step into our home. I could tell you of the fear I felt when I saw him re-lock our door and then gingerly pick up the piece of paper from the floor, inserting it deftly back into the doorframe. Perhaps the horror and nausea as I watched him step lightly across our living room, examining different things, and then as he took what appeared to be a fine toothed comb, how he gently retraced his steps on the carpet, erasing them. I think none of these can fully explain how terrified and ill I suddenly felt. The silly overreacting explanations had been true. Our neighbor had indeed been in our home mere hours ago. Panic had begun to take hold of me, and I watched on. He carefully walked through our home, carefully picking things up and placing them back down. He eventually went up the stairs, and while I saw him lightly stepping and covering his footprints, I could not see anything he did on the second floor due to how I had placed the camera. Whatever he did there, in the guest room, my office, or our storage area, took him hours. Carefully I skipped ahead through the feed, shakily tapping my phone, and eventually he reappeared briefly as he walked past the camera and ascended to the third floor, the same big smile still on his face.

I put my phone down and took a moment to breathe. I looked around the room, carefully scanning for what may have been covered footprints, for anything that was slightly moved aside or touched, but I saw nothing. I wanted to call the police right then, to call my wife, to flee the house itself, but more than all of those, I wanted to see what else he had done, and so I switched to the feed from the last camera at the head of our bed. I saw him enter the room, glassy eyed, his smile stretching to the edges of his face. He stood there in the doorway just breathing deeply for some time, almost trying to suck up as much of the air as he could. He moved around the big room and touched everything. He would only gently place the tips of his fingers on things, the dresser, the handles to the closet, the TV. He treated everything with reverence, and as I watched his myriad expressions of bliss, I could see that this really seemed like a holy place to him. Eventually he moved to the bed and I saw his face clearly, sheer bliss emanating from him. So delicately did he touch our pillows that I thought he might cry with joy. As happy as he appeared, know that I was equally nauseous watching this. Again I wished to put down the phone, to leap from the bed where I sat, knowing he had touched it, but on I watched. Around and around the bed he went, back and forth, touching it, smelling it, so much so that again I fast forwarded until I saw him stop. He had noticed the small camera on the bedframe.

At first he stood there simply looking at it, and when he reached out to touch it, I can only assume he realized what it was. Immediately the blissful look was washed from his face. The wide smile twisted into a furious frown. The veins stood bulging against the skin of his thinly haired head, and he flushed crimson. Where a moment ago had been the glass-like look of a deranged blissful man, here, a mere foot from the camera, was the face of a monster. He was livid, the anger rising from him like steam. His shoulders heaved and spittle formed at the corners of his twisted mouth. I've no idea what went through his mind as I watched him, I could only see his fury as it continued to build and build. I held the phone at a distance from me, and skipped ahead, feeling a genuine fear of what I was seeing. On and on I skipped and still, the ruby red face of Andrew stood staring at the camera, just as furious as ever, until eventually his eyes went wide, his anger still visible but now another emotion vied for its place on his brow.
Was it confusion? Panic? Something he had sensed or heard had made him unsure, and he retreated from the camera, never taking his eyes from it. He moved to the side of the bed where my wife's dresser was, and placed a foot upon it. Upwards he sprang, gently pushing off of the bed with his other foot, he moved like a cat, pulling aside the attic panel and with a practiced grace, he quickly and smoothly pulled himself up and replaced it. Then, a moment later, it was pressed downward barely a centimetre. His eyes just barely visible, focused on the camera.

Until this point, everything I had seen had disturbed me greatly. I dared not look away from the screen. Even now, as I watched the feed, looking into the eyes peering from the attic, with my stomach in knots, I simply watched. And equally, there in the attic, unmoving, Andrew watched the camera. Occasionally he shifted so as to look down or to the side, but only barely did he move, and still I watched. When a second person entered the room, my blood went cold, yet still I watched. I watched as he changed out of his work clothes. I watched him as he sat on the bed where I sat. I watched as he pulled out his phone and looked into it, and I watched as the man in the attic watched him. I did not skip forward, I dared not put my phone down, I dared not breathe. Suddenly I could almost feel Andrew's eyes boring into the top of my head, feeling his burning expression of fury pressing into me from above. And then I heard, so faintly that I might have imagined it, the attic panel above me creak.

Like lightning I sprang from the bed. I raced down the stairs, grabbing my keys, phone still in hand, and outside I went. I got in the car, shoeless, and reversed out of the driveway, speeding away from my home, with no destination but 'away'.
I was in a grocery store parking lot when I called my wife. I could hear the worry in her voice as I explained what I had seen. Eventually, through her own shock, she calmed me down, and we agreed on a course of action. She soon left work and we went to a hotel for the night, she picked up some minor things we would need, and I, having finally calmed down, called the police.

To their credit, the police took me very seriously. I explained everything as clearly as I could, and when we eventually got to the description of Andrew himself, there was a pause. The officer asked me if I was sure that was who I had seen. He repeated back to me the description of Andrew in even greater detail than I had given it. "That's what the guy looked like? You're sure?" he asked. I told him I was certain, I even had him on video. We were told to come to the police station, and assured officers would be sent to our home right away.

When we arrived, disheveled as we were, the police took us straight to the office of a man I assume was highly ranked from how he was treated. On his desk was one thick manila file, and several others stacked beside it. We had barely introduced ourselves when the man began questioning us. He wished to know every detail we could give him, far beyond just today's events. We gave him all we could, the name of our realtor, where we worked, contacts, family, so on and so on. Eventually I showed him the footage I had captured on my camera, where it had left off. The man took the phone from me and immediately swiped to the end of the footage, pausing it right before it ended, Andrew's furious face in clear view, his hand outstretched towards the camera itself.
"Yeah, that's him" he said. He read the question as my lips formed them, and he held up a hand. "He's a dangerous man, that's all you need to know... but you're safe now." and that was it.

From then on we were held for hours and questioned by several different pairs of police officers and detectives, but we were well taken care of and we did truly feel safe. Eventually we were informed that we could go back to our hotel, and police had been sent ahead of us for our safety. Before we left we were called back into what we then learned was the Captain's office and we spoke with the Captain himself once more. He filled us in on what had happened at our home, which was largely nothing.
They hadn't found Andrew, or any trace of him in the attic. They had checked his house too, and the Captain described it as a "rat's nest." He told us of how the interior of the house was filled with trash and refuse, how there had been dozens of for sale signs piled up in the rooms, no doubt from the houses on our streets. On and on he described the horrid place Andrew had made his home, but they had not found the man himself. He explained how we were going to be protected, how he was going to contact both of our employers and so on, and in the course of him doing this, someone else came in and handed him a phone, explaining it was two fellow officers.

The captain answered it and simply listened to the faint voice on the other end for a while, occasionally pausing to confirm details. Soon he turned to us and asked, "You were staying at the ***** Inn off Highford street, by the gas station?" My wife and I nodded, he confirmed it to the man on the phone. A moment passed and he turned to us again. "Room 204?" And my wife produced our hotel key, room 204. Again he confirmed it to the other officer on the phone. They talked at length and we gleaned little details until the captain himself seemed to suddenly relax. Whatever news he had been given was good. "Under the bed, Jesus. Good work." With that, he turned to us, smiling the first genuine smile I had seen in weeks.
"We caught him" he said.

2020.09.21 03:09 thotaway123 My [27F] boyfriend [34m] is disappearing into his busy season, and I feel ignored.

I’ve raised this to him once, but things have gotten harder since going long distance. I trust and believe him that work is all consuming (we are in the same industry) and I try to support him by sending cute good night texts and little gifts to his place, since I know he’s feeling stressed and anxious. We’ve been dating for 6 months, long distance for almost 1. The busy season will last for another month - he’s basically working around the clock.
I let him know that I wanted more, and we are supposed to talk next week. He’s not usually selfish and is very game to meet me in the middle typically. We have super different communication styles, so I don’t want to ask him to change who he fundamentally is in order for me to be fulfilled.
I spoke with my single friends and my friends in relationships. Friends in relationships say this is normal, not great, but that it’s overcome-able. My single friends trash him and say that I deserve someone who can devote more time to me.
Any thoughts? I struggle with relationships myself [insert sob story here], but I care about this guy and I want to make it work if it’s possible, while also honoring my needs for communication and security.
Take it away, Reddit!

2020.09.21 02:01 boredCommentator JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #5 - Round 2 Match 1 - Wrenn Aflight vs Alexis Williams

As we mentioned in the stage announcement post, the first match is coming earlier than initially scheduled in order to accommodate the particularly unique needs of players in this match. Strats will still go up 24 hours after this is posted (so 7 CST on the 21st), and from there, as per usual, will be slightly over two days to vote, but it’ll be a few days before match 2 drops along with results for this one.
That aside, we’re delighted to be back in the saddle, and hope for another successful round!
(Shoutouts to DemonicKraken for the match concept!)
Scenario:
Sound’s Garden Eastern Strip - Metra Doria’s Apartment - Late Afternoon
A quartet of young adults sat together in a large apartment living room, sharing snacks as they looked out a large window to the city bustling below.
“When you said you were down for a collab,” Wrenn Aflight said as he unscrewed the cap of a bottle of water formerly sitting on a table, “I wasn’t exactly expecting to get brought back to your place! I mean, it’s nice here,” he added, quickly grumbling, “nicer than where I’m staying,” before returning to his typical high and audible tone, “but… It’s not exactly normal stuff!”
Metra Doria, known widely to the city as TD/MD, had blatantly heard even the quietest of utterances there, frowning a moment before explaining, “I’ve got a fully-functional recording studio set up in the other room, actually, with soundproof walls and everything. I know how to do all that mixing and mastering stuff on my own, and after some, uh…” She paused, looking to one of the others in the room: her manager and old friend, Thutmose. “Past experiences I’ve had with people we’ve hired for it, I’d rather handle it without dealing with big-name studios around here.”
“I see…” Wrenn nodded, his pragmatic side able to respect that barrier she’d put up of her own volition. He’d passed on performing with Rudolf when he opened for her big show at the Alexander Dickinson, sure, but he still kept up with entertainment news so he could stay relevant here; he didn’t need to press to know that Metra had an obsessed fan in a very high place in Sound’s Garden. Legitimately, he could empathize, not that he would admit to having had his own troubles. “And why is she here?”
Wrenn jerked his thumb at a redhead who was sitting opposite him and nursing a harder bottled drink than the rest. Alexis Williams just waved, smiled, and answered genuinely, “oh, Metra just wanted to hang out and I said ‘sure!’ It’s nice to hang out with people who haven’t let all their fame get to their head, y’know?”
Big name in one city… Wrenn thought to himself bitterly, but nodded his head nonetheless, still smiling widely and nodding cheerfully. “Right! I understand, the more the merrier!”
“Has that guy been bothering you at all lately?” Alexis asked, having firsthand learned what Wrenn had through the grapevine, and concerned for who she’d considered a fast friend. “He seemed pretty pissed when he didn’t get to see you after the show…”
“Not recently, on my end,” Metra answered, pacing about, stretching, and looking as though she’d smelled something off, before shrugging it off soon afterwards. “Feel like it’s just a matter of time, though, especially if I’m gonna make any headway on what’s rotten around here. Even if I’ve had it luckier than a lot of talent, I don’t feel comfortable just sitting here raking it in from a business so full of freaks, yeah?”
“I’ve had a bit of a hard time,” Thutmose admitted, the manager rubbing at the side of his head and sighing, “standing up to Fox and Tigran and backing you up has gotten most of my other clients poached… Landing you gigs has gotten harder, and they don’t tell me as much now, but I haven’t gotten any word of them planning much new…”
“That’s the music industry everywhere,” Wrenn trilled in his singsongy voice, “it’s the same in Los Fortuna as it is in Japan as it is in South Korea as it is anywhere else you can think of with big stars. Something we just sorta have to deal with… But if you fight it, my Twitter followers will be right behind you!”
“It’s different from what you’re probably thinking of, I think,” Alexis answered with more of a frown now, “like, they straight-up force people to fight deathmatches or generally ruin days pitting them against each other and then bet on it. An… acquaintance, even got pretty messed up because she tried to look into them. She had friends who could be some really bad news themselves and they basically got steamrolled by these guys.” She gave Metra a pleading look. “Whatever comes, be careful, alright? Don’t throw your life away… It’s all you’ll ever have.”
“I’ve lived here all my life,” Metra answered, sounding touched by the concern, “and been a part of this Entertainment world since I was a teenager… My ears are more perfect than any living person, and I know where to keep them. I appreciate it, but Thutmose and I know what we’re-” She paused, then, mid-sentence, tilting her head. “Someone just dropped something off outside. Sounds… Heavy, and loosely packed. Not moving or breathing at all…”
“I’ve got this,” Thutmose answered, placing his hands on his knees before finally standing and stretching, the shift of his posture exposing what appeared to be an odd and intimidating-looking jar clipped to his belt loop. “If it’s a bomb or something, heaven forbid, my Stand is probably the best here for dealing with it…”
Things were tense a few moments, then, as the manager stepped towards the apartment’s front door, opening it and peering around outside. After several moments, then, he approached, carrying with him a box nearly as wide as his wingspan and taller than half of them, carefully balancing it. He had already opened the top to examine it, and plopped it, then, down on the floor before pulling out the box’s contents and placing it on the coffee table.
“It’s…” Wrenn started, pausing for dramatic effect.
“A desktop sand garden?” Alexis added, squinting a bit (“Okay yeah just interrupt me!”) at the solid gold container of smooth sands, rocks, and golden tiny rakes, intricately woven with patterns of an odd symbol resembling a vague jumbling of mix-matched letters.
“Desktop,” Thutmose sneered, rolling his eyes and looking it over. “It’s the size of a sand box. I swear, this guy…” Still, as he went to quickly lock the door again, he looked to Metra, as if expecting her to confirm or deny something.
“It’s…” She moved close, examining it carefully. “It doesn’t seem to be booby-trapped at all… Just really, really garish. No return address, but this tackiness says more than enough. Just another unwanted gift…” She scoffed, pulling away and looking to the others. “After we’re done recording, wanna take this thing up to the roof and smash it up?”
There were universal nods and murmurs of agreement, but as Metra led the lot of them into the next room, something was on her mind.
I heard this get dropped off. Why didn’t I hear any footsteps..?
“Hey, Alexis, I know I said I just wanted to hang out, but mind hitting up the triangle here? This isn’t a joke, legit I think it’ll give the song something perfect.”
“Heh, I dunno if I’m qualified, but I’ll do my best, Metra.”
“Just tell us if it’s too hard! I know keeping up with me or TD/MD can be a big challenge when you’ve only opened for one concert!”
“I was a Vegas performer for years, actually…”
“Wait, wait, Wrenn, you KNOW the Black Angel? You’ve met TWICE? Oh my gosh you need to introduce us!”
“I would, but I dunno if they’d want me giving out that info to strangers! And how old are you, exactly?”
“Huh? Why bring that up all of a sudden?”
“Never mind!”
“Do you ever get tired of wearing those contacts? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you without them…”
“Huh? No, no, my eyes are naturally like this… Silver and blue-with-black-stripe from the day I was born. Kinda built my whole aesthetic around it.”
“You just wake up like this? I’m almost jealous!! You wouldn’t believe how much time and actual effort it takes to get ready every morning…”
A few hours passed like that, Alexis, Metra, and Wrenn, in spite of some hiccups, actually all-around having a really nice time recording together. Relatively early into the engagement, Thutmose had excused himself to make a video conference with one of his few remaining other clients and not returned, but before then he’d been quiet enough that only Metra sort of noticed.
The three of them headed out into the living room in high spirits, Metra leading the way as she began to enthusiastically approach the gaudy gilded sandbox, only to stop dead in her tracks as she looked at Thutmose, sitting at the sofa by the thing with his head hanging low.
“Other guy give you trouble?” Wrenn asked teasingly, beginning to step forward before the next words uttered stopped his pace.
“His heart is barely beating…” Metra’s remark paused everyone’s pace, only for her and Alexis to hurry closer anyway. “Hey, your eyes are open. Look at me! Answer!!”
“Sure, just run right in…” Wrenn muttered, holding his ground but watching like a hawk. If they were going to be impulsive, he’d just have to help.
Metra shook him by the shoulder, trying to rouse his attention, only to hear things rattling inside him, eyes widening as she recognized the noise. Alexis, meanwhile, looked behind her to the box. “Wait… There’s, like, less than half the sand and rocks in this thing as before. I’m not imagining that, right?”
She turned to face Metra as Metra turned to face her, only for her ears to perk, and a set of headphones to appear around her neck. She had heard something else shift.
“SOMEONE’S UNDER THE FLOOR!”
As Metra called that, Alexis saw Thutmose’s mouth shift, head jerk upright, and she acted quickly, pivoting and getting close to the musician before manifesting ‘Kingdom of Desire’ to shove her away and shield the then-frazzled musician.
Out from the manager’s mouth, his nose, even the sockets of his opened and unfocused eyes came an outpouring of sand and rocks, targeted directly at Alexis and pelting her from all angles. With gymnastic expertise, she began to dodge and swerve around it, but the sand and rocks quickly began to coil more and more around her until, finally, it coiled around and entrapped her as her Stand moved back in to try and wrestle free of the by nature difficult to grasp, suffocating restraints which threatened to incapacitate her however they had the manager sprawled under the floor, rocks in his stomach still bashing at the floor tiles as if to bust them open.
Looks like… A five meter range, Stand User under the floor! Wrenn thought to himself, keeping his distance from the scene and manifesting his own. This stuff would be no match for-
He felt a massive hand come over his face, seeing eyes in its foul-smelling form, something emerging from it and pricking his neck as his short, thin body was easily lifted several feet into the air.
“Gotcha!” The Mangled, gnarled voice of the serial-killer-turned-bloodsport-announcer Conqueror Worm exclaimed with great amusement. “C’mon, you didn’t really think the bossman would do this without cover, didja?”
Finally, the floor beneath Thutmose gave to his body being used to bludgeon it, and out, to the eyes of the pair quickly losing control of their Stands with the loss of their consciousness, rose a large, built-looking man with brown hair and a nice vest - Alexis, of the two city newcomers, would recognize him as ‘Fox,’ who quickly shuffled out of KoD’s range.
Metra, though in the closest thing to fighting condition, was stunned on the floor, shaking with anger and disbelief at what was happening as the man turned to face her.
“…sorry about the floor,” he offered her, extending a hand up which, of course, she recoiled from. He didn’t think much of this. “Fixing it’ll be paid for, of course. People like me pay our dues.”
Metra Doria could probably fight back here, especially with how this guy would likely go easy on her, even with that second guy here, but with each in a position where they’d managed to incapacitate one of her friends, held their lives on the line… And honestly, knowing this guy, that sniper might not be far either.
“What do you want?” She asked, unable to hide the contempt in her voice as she tried to think of a way to get these guys out of here.
Fox looked surprised, tilting his head in confusion. “What do you mean? I’m here to give you exactly what you’ve been looking for, nothing more. You wanted to learn what we do, didn’t you..?” He glanced, then, first down at Thutmose by his feet, then towards Wrenn, then back at Alexis, the latter two both fading from consciousness now, but clearly hearing the tinge of malice in what he spoke next, what it implied for them. “Of course, you’re free to refuse as well, and then I’ll just leave you be.”
As he offered her a hand again, both of the others’ visions faded to black.
An unknown time later, in an unknown place…
Wrenn awoke to the sound of trains rumbling around him, feeling groggy and on edge. Was he… In a train station? Was he late to meet with Metra after a bad dream? Why was this all so uncomfortable? He rolled to one side as he tried to sit up.
Then, there was nothing underneath him.
“Shit!!” He scrambled, one hand reaching behind him and grasping at what he’d been laying on. This was… Rope? He was on a tightrope?? Why was he-
Shit, that really happened, didn’t it? Hurriedly, the performer pulled himself up, balancing precariously atop the thing and trying to gather his bearings, looking around. “Metra? Alexis? Other guy?”
“I’m here, Wrenn!”
Alexis had woken up a short time earlier, on the opposite side of this all, and as she stood and watched this from a distance, was thankful that her and Wrenn both had such reflexes that a situation like this wouldn’t kill them.
“We’re in some kind of… Spiderweb-shaped tightrope?” Alexis explained, trying to get him up to speed on what had come and calm herself by talking it out. “I don’t see anyone else, but I see a bunch of tinted windows and a net above us… We’re in one of those weird games she warned us against, aren’t we?”
“It would stand to reason!” Wrenn’s voice had gone even higher, in what Alexis could only surmise was nerves, and he began to pace around his bit of rope, looking around at the windows in question over the brightly-lit, red-and-white-striped room.
The general advice in a situation like this was ‘don’t look down’ - if one was to look down, they would realize exactly how far a fall would be, and want not to die would define self-ruinous levels of anxiety on the matter. Alexis Williams, however, feared many things more than death, and so she looked down to see what might lurk beneath as she had looked above.
“Hey, don’t look down,” she immediately told Wrenn.
“So, what’s going on here?” He asked, calming himself to his usual tone, well aware that freaking out here could spell death. It was time to balance and put his feelings aside as he always had. “Are we just meant to stand around here until we die? That seems kind of… Not what these people apparently do!”
“You’re FINALLY awake! I swear, we got us some real sleepyheads here… Like chokin’ someone out or sticking ‘em with a needle is a reason to oversleep! Rise and grind, that’s what you kids say, yeah?”
The voice of Worm rang through the room, through loudspeakers on each corner.
“And I gotta say, Aflight, you got good sense here! You know EXACTLY where this is going, don’t cha?!”
Putting on a cutesy demeanor, managing an impressive curtsy with the hands on the side of his puffy skirt, Wrenn answered with a tilted head. “I wonder… Oh, I get it! You want us to fight up here, right?”
“Wrenn..?” Alexis was confused. There was keeping calm, but now the younger performer was playing to this horrible crowd outright?
“Correctamundo! Thousand points to you! And boy do I gotta say, I speak on behalf of all of Sound’s Garden’s Underground when I say I am PLEASED to work with talent from your bunches again! Ain’t no rules to this one except try an’ stay on the ropes!”
“Don’t expect me to disappoint, then! This’ll be the new best show you’ve ever had!” Wrenn had a wide, fake smile on his face, eyes gleaming with a practiced appeal he was sure would drive the crowd wild.
“What..?” Alexis blinked, stepping back and shaking her head. “No, I refuse! I can’t get behind this!! And Wrenn, you don’t have to either! They won’t catch us off-guard this time, yeah? We can get out of here if we put our minds together and-”
Wrenn spoke more quietly, then, so the audience was less likely to hear, but not so much so that Alexis could not. “We’re captives here, Alexis. It’s kill or be killed, basically, and I’m a survivor!”
“We don’t have to be!” She insisted, hoping she could convince him of how pointless fighting here would be.
“Don’t we, though? I mean…” He brought a finger to his chin, tilting his head and leaning forward to face her. “If we don’t give them what we want, even if we broke out of here somehow, we’d still be outnumbered and in their territory! There is literally no way either of us gets out of this alive without fighting!”
“But-”
“And besides that…” Wrenn interrupted, remembering the last things they had seen before they’d awoken in this garishly big-top-themed underground room, “we’re still alive right now, aren’t we? I distinctly remember being held as hostages so Metra would do… Whatever the heck that creepy guy wanted! We’d probably have died instead if she’d run off! So basically, she’s probably in a bad situation right now too, all because she was willing to help us! Thutmose, too, probably! Don’t forget how he was half-dead!”
Alexis couldn’t deny that, simply saying, quietly, “I don’t want to do this… I hate fighting…”
“I don’t like this either,” Wrenn said with that forced smile on his face, “but this is just what the Angel was telling me about… This is what happens, even if I don’t know about all of that fate stuff. Do you think you’re the better person here because you’re willing to do nothing and risk multiple lives instead of fighting for your own?”
“You… You’re seriously going to do this, aren’t you?” Alexis hated everything about this, but no part of her was surprised. That was just life for people like them, huh? “You’re going to play into exactly what these people want…”
“You know it as well as I do! Sometimes show business is indulging people you can’t stand so you can keep a roof over your head! If you’re so proud of what you did at that last show, then put on the best you’ve got and top it here, right on this web of tightropes!”
“Looks like the competitors are in startin’ positions, folks. Bets close on ‘game,’ so get the last of ‘em in now before one of these two slips and falls! Alright, we all good? Okay, then!”
“OPEN THE GAME!”

Location:
Somewhere in the underground fight club on a tightrope net. The map is 24 by 24 meters with each tile being 4 by 4 meters. The ground is 30 meters below you and the ceiling is 30 meters above you.
The red and dotted lines are a set of 2 tightrope nets, one a little less than two meters above the other. The players start on the lower net with Alexis on the left and Wrenn on the right. Both players can readily grab onto the net above them for balance if they reach upwards. The net itself is made out of thick intertwining ropes, it has about the width of a person’s foot and is sturdy enough to support multiple people. As the name would imply the tightrope net is fairly taut, at most only dropping a few inches with your weight pressed on them.
The purple and grey squares on the map are the support pillars that the nets are attached to. These pillars go all the way up to the ceiling and are made of stone.
Goal: RETIRE your opponents! Alternatively knock your opponent to the ground below!
Additional Information:
This match is able to be won by ‘ring-out.’ Basically, if the opponent either physically cannot or willfully will not return to the rope nets or touches the floor then that counts as a Retire. Standing on your own stand constructs that are on the floor would also count as touching the floor, if for whatever reason you wanted to do that.
Team Combatant JoJolity
Juddeca Highrollers Alexis Williams “Moving around the tower gives me plenty of exercise, even if I don’t leave. And just look at the view!” You absolutely hate to admit it, but Wrenn isn’t wrong. If you don’t put on another good show for these bastards, it could end badly. Make a grand spectacle of your strategy!
Masters of Funky Action Wrenn Aflight “Sure, it’s powerful… But you can’t even brush me with it! It’s got a max range of what, like 2 meters? I can walk this whole tower forwards and backwards blindfolded!” You’re not just local or even national, you’re internationally beloved, and these monsters’ little makeshift underground big top is even more beneath you than that long painful drop. For the sake of your survival, and showing who they’re messing with, make a grand spectacle of your strategy!

2020.09.21 01:52 growtopiagamer I don't like the game anymore.

This is kind of a rant but yea I'll go ahead.
So, I usually play this game to spend my time and meet awesome people, u/eupehoric, u/Haycutter69, u/GapBetweenLewisTeeth are my best friends (not in order uwu) , I'm lonely in real life, but playing gt with them makes me much happier.
I don't have much wls, I probably never even will, but I still try to earn some. I don't scam, I don't do illegal stuff and I'm not racist, I'm very friendly.
I've seen so many countless of toxic people on GT, in anywhere. Once I was with my old irl friend who's actually black irl (he's Indian), and a toxic indonesian was calling us stupid n-words. Also this year with my friend u/Haycutter69, just some random indo came to our world and started being so toxic.
And, meeting people at LOVE, well, it's complicated, there are a bunch of jerks, pedos, perverts, attention seekers, kids, bunch of weirdos with bunch of bad jokes, and the kids who think that being toxic is cool.
For example once I was in world LOVE, I'm sometimes there cuz I get bored, so I was talking with a nice guy, he was very fine guy and friendly, we were talking about fifa 20 because we both play it. Then the 2 magical dickheads appear. They start saying "fifa 20 lol" "fifa 20 for moneywasters" "ooh lol you guys gay? Let's make a cake, and a nice bed for you" "fortnite is much better and gt" "delete fifa 20 ur bad". We were pretty confused cuz they just came to seek attention from us, well they got it. And then normally they started insulting us, calling us gay and etc gt toxicity.
And, once I was just hosting a spleef game in my world JEYXCOAL, I took 2 rounds, there was only 3 players. The 1 guy lost them 2, on 1st round he was 3rd and then he lost at 2nd on 2nd place. I gave the winner his world locks. Next the toxic guy who lost them both, starts getting so toxic that he wants to 1v1 the kid (the spleef game winner). The toxic guy is 17 and the kid is 11. I was on the Kid's side, he was very nice and honest guy, so I kinda was on his side.
The toxic guy requests for his Insta, Snap, YouTube, Discord and WhatsApp. At this moment I'm like wtffffffff, but the kid says that he only has whatsapp and then the toxic guy starts being like "ooh mama's boy" "no permission for youtube" "no insta no life".
Next I just banned him cuz I saw enough, in fact I added the kid as my friend cuz he was much nicer than the toxic 17yr old guy.
And, there's a lot of racists on gt. My friend is gay, and many ppl said "lol gay noob" to him yk, and then he's said yea I'm gay. And then the toxic guy says you don't deserve to live and kill yourself, and also his dad died a few days ago, idk when u seeing this but at that time it's maybe a week ago. He also tried suicide, but he didnt, I'm glad he didn't.
Yeah next, there's so many scammers, if I've got a buck every time a guy is scammed in gt, I'd be a millionaire. Just the basic scams, and yea. I'm not very rich in gt, but losing wls is my strength. I'm not a good seller or a buyer, and when I get tired of it I just sell it cheaper or buy for more expensive.
Trying to do ring quests has cost me too many wls. Just, my dream ring is the only one Ring Of Winds because I like it. I just spent like 1 and half dl this carnival for 2 fistfuls, more like 2 fists in the asshole. I'm feeling like bruh I don't ever wanna do this again but yea, it's addictive. I have Gemini ring tho I think it's ok, but I wanted Ring Of Winds.
Also, you can't literally trust much ppl when buying carni quests, I've got scammed 30+ wls this carnival already and I'm dead inside. How do ppl have the "trusted" boards, even tho I get scammed lmao?
I've Never took a real casino match in a so called "htwqqjamew7masarapecsn42069" world yk. While I was starting the game, I scammed people because my friend said I should scam ppl to get wls. I'm sorry for my scam victims, I don't do it anymore. U can get the Teeny wings back and ur 200 Wood Blocks bro, where ever u are....
I've met a lot of rich ppl in gt, but usually they just want to earn wls in gt and nothing else. I wonder how's it so entertaining tho. Me: Has 35wls
My mind: Wow that's so low
Me: sees someone has a bgl
My mind: IIII NEEEEEEEEEEED IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
Earning wls has been tough, but Geigering is the best way for me.
I've only spent like 11€ on the game, because I got a gift card from my aunt for bday gift last year. I'm considering to buy the road to glory, but I don't have a debit card yet because yet my mom always forgets about it and dad idk what. I wish they could make the road to glory 25€ instead it being 27€
I don't have anything on my mind to say anymore, but I'm disappointed, I don't know will I quit Growtopia, but at least my friends keep me playing it. Also, a problem with my wls is just giving them away, I have a wl spending problem. But I hope I've made someone's day by donating 3wls to a complete stranger.
Yeah that's pretty much it, I wanted to share my feelings on our awesome subreddit that I love, I love the new revamp and the fact that @misthios is here, keep up the good and related posts here guys!

2020.09.21 01:15 TrevorKauer Parenting in COVID: 3-week support program with $100 incentive

Thanks Mod for approving this post - looking forward to helping parents in this crazy COVID time!
Narrating Our Parenting Journey Together
Being a parent can be one of the most rewarding and the most stressful experiences in life. Over the last several months, we have seen even more challenges to parenting with the onset of COVID-19 and its numerous impacts on our families. You may be trying to juggle many roles, stressors, and complicated circumstances and/or you may just be trying to figure out how to parent in the midst of a pandemic. As we parent, we sometimes miss the opportunity to make sense of our parenting experiences with others, often keeping the difficulties to ourselves in favor of sharing the successes. But parenting can be enhanced by being in community with others.
Thus, you are invited to participate in a free, three-week Narrative Parenting workshop designed for parents to reflect upon and talk with others about their parenting stories, particularly as it pertains to parenting in the midst of COVID-19. Each week, we will meet together digitally for 90 minutes in small groups to talk about the highs and lows of parenting. These sessions will be held online through Zoom. This workshop is part of a research study we are conducting through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Department of Communication Studies research lab Narrative Nebraska. Each participant will receive a $100 gift card upon completion of the study!
If you would like to participate, please contact the Narrative Nebraska lab at UNL at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) about your interest and to schedule your meeting sessions. We look forward to you joining us!

2020.09.21 00:59 ThrowRAbirthdaygirl My two best friends (21 F & 21 F) have ruined my first celebrated birthday party (22 F)

Hello! I know that the title sounds petty but I think I have a pretty good reason as to why I can be petty. I just feel conflicted as a lot of chaotic events have gone down and this was the first time my birthday was ever celebrated with anyone else.
I'll just give a short name for the people involved: N (21 F) and A (21 F)
To start, my best friends have chosen to celebrate my birthday and have planned it a month and a half in advance. At first, I was hesitant as we are still in a pandemic but they have reassured me that they would self-quarantine and even send a pdf of their COVID results before the trip. Knowing my best friends, I know they had a lot of requests so for the Airbnb they wanted to the budget to be $800- $1000 so that everyone can have their separate rooms, spacious space with a pool, and if the Airbnb was pet friendly to bring her dog. I was a bit hesitant as it's pricey for two nights and wanted to make sure it was budget-friendly for some other birthday expenses as my friends are consistently reminding my boyfriend and I that they are unemployed and have no money flowing in. Throughout the whole time, it just seemed like they wanted to pick the most expensive Airbnb and even hijacked my birthday theme stating that "The majority people have decided an astrology theme for your party" when I wanted something else. As days have gone by it just seems like they were more interested in meeting up with each other and having a get together versus celebrating my birthday in which they were so adamant about celebrating but I have never celebrated my birthday and they have known me for 7 years and they think I deserve it. Although I just felt like they had different intentions as every day it's like "We should smoke some weed! Hotbox somewhere!" or "Damn we want to trip for your birthday", I have nothing against drugs but it just bothers me that we haven't seen anyone in ages since this pandemic has started and the first thing they want to do is get high of their asses until they are unable to move. I was talking about how it would be cute if we can all play board games and order food from somewhere else but was shut down to bring the idea that we should all wake up at 6 AM to watch the sunrise and that they were going to cook for themselves because they can't afford to eat out. I was like okay that's fine and even offered to purchase groceries for them and instead we can cook together some fun recipes. My boyfriend created a separate group chat and had told them that he planning to surprise me with a birthday cake that I kept my eyes on and wanted to know if they can pitch in $11 to do so. Of course, they said no and preached about they have no money to split and that they'll make me a birthday cake which then later they tried asking us to pay for. Later that day they accidentally exposed themselves on spending $95 on medical weed carts to smoke at my party after I had exclusively said I feel uncomfortable with this as the Airbnb host had specifically written no illegal activities allowed and that they had cameras outside. When it came to purchasing our theme outfits, it felt like a slap to the face when they have preached about being unemployed and they can't afford to spend money but spent almost more than $200 for their outfit to look boujee when we all meet each other. They kept insisting that we should all trip on shrooms but I said I felt uncomfortable doing that at the Airbnb that I booked as it was expensive and I don't want to risk getting kicked out. Well, they booked another expensive Airbnb to attend after my birthday and named it the tripcation and did not invite me as they have believed that I am too worried about everything.
The day to check-in at the Airbnb arrived and it felt like a slap to my house when we all arrived at the Airbnb and my two best friends just actively ignored me and kept stating that they were working on their homework that due tomorrow, September 17th (the day of my birthday). I was a bit annoyed because from September 16th - September 17th; 7 pm we did absolutely nothing but watch them do homework with the expensive Airbnb that everyone wanted to book so badly. My boyfriend and I kept looking at each because we finished all of our assignments on time since this was booked a month in advance. It wasn't easy as I work a full-time job while taking 6 college classes and I run an organization from my university but I managed to get everything done to celebrate my birthday. We had originally planned to cook together and even then no one cooked with me and I just felt like a servant serving everyone food while they were busy working on their assignments. I also cooked dinner by myself because they were too "busy" and my friend A ran away from the Airbnb because she was hungry and complained that the food was not served on time even though I was waiting for those two to help me cook because that was planned. So on my birthday I just dealt with people who left their assignments to be done at the very last minute and essentially wasted an entire day doing nothing, ran away, created problems, and it was after I fell asleep that they dressed up and used my birthday decor to take pictures and videos for social media captioning it "Astrology party!". Not to mention that the gift they gave me was a book about learning gratitude and then a poop emoji card with nothing written in it. As for the birthday cake they promised to make me, it was a mess as it splatters of green and brown dye all over it. Another slap to the face was when they finally went to their tripcation Airbnb and stated "Yay it feels so nice to have everything prepared, we're going to have so much fun!" I honestly still feel sad over it because this is the first time that I have celebrated my friends and the way they went about it felt disrespectful and it felt as if they were using my birthday to prepare for something else even though they wanted to make this the "best birthday ever".
My boyfriend and friend that I invited over keep telling me that these people have no respect for me to even let that happen and that I should just cut them off. I've sent them a message about how upset I am but they never apologized and blamed the quarantine for making them forget proper social skills.
Should I just cut them off as it just seems like they have no respect for me?
TLDR: Two of my best friend lead me on by thinking they wanted to make my birthday extremely special but ended up doing the opposite of that. They blamed the quarantine for making them forget proper skills.

2020.09.21 00:50 ThrowRAEuropean Is it a good idea to try dating again with my ex?

Hi reddit,
5 years ago or so, I had a relationship with a girl for a few months. We met because of a common friend. I'm (27M) a software developer that uses all the latest technology and I use my phone constantly (now it's only a lot worse than back then) and she (24F) is someone who has no laptop, only uses her phone when she comes outside and doesn't forget it, has no social media at all and communicates only through email and letters. Needless to say, we were very different.
After a few months I got scared... I was scared that we'd never be completely compatible because of all our differences, technology being the biggest one. But also the fact how she loved personal gifts more than things you can buy and that wasn't something I was really familiar with. Also she is really very small and I don't know, I got scared that I might hurt her easily or that we could have trouble having sex or anything... We never got to that point though so I don't know how it'd go...
During the last 3 years and 8 months (until a month ago), I was in an extremely toxic relationship. Extreme jealousy, silent treatments, drama when I read texts and didn't answer immediately, drama when I was away, drama everywhere basically, etc... It completely broke me. In the beginning of this toxic relationship I've had contact with my ex I was talking about and I met her once again for a party for her birthday. But after that my toxic ex was jealous and forbid me to talk to exes again and especially that particular ex. So it went silent and I didn't meet her anymore. When things got worse though, I started mailing again with her and we got to talk about everything and it was amazing how I could talk to her about everything, as well as the other way around. I talked about my bad relationship, she even about someone she was giving her number to. I was constantly afraid of my toxic ex though, so sometimes I didn't answer for weeks or even months because she was always nearby when I was at home. It was difficult.
But since mid august that toxic relationship is over and I started mailing more and more, every few days or often every day. We talked about everything and nothing and it was amazing to see how we clicked and how I could talk to her without thinking what I should or shouldn't say... Three days ago we met again after multiple years. The last time with the party was in 2017, 3,5 years ago. I was scared of seeing her again but everything felt so amazing.
We kept talking about everything and we both really feel a connection. We even talked about it being there and finding out what it means exactly. During the last time I was someone with a busy life and wanted to push ourselves together too fast. She even told me back then the first day how I tried to kiss her all day and she didn't let me until of a romantic moment I created in the evening and then we kissed for the first time. I don't know why I rushed it back then or tried to. I'm definitely not like that anymore.
We even talked about living together and how we'd both perfectly be able to live with each other, about going on trips together etc... All on email but also in real life.
That toxic relationship might have broken me completely, but because of that I think I understand love now more than ever. And I think the relationship I couldn't have back then is something I need in my life right now and might be the perfect balance after all. I believe she can give me the rest and silence that I need in my life. It feels amazing but somewhere I'm scared of hurting her again and I'd never forgive myself if I do that again...
Since I met her again I'm thinking about her more and more and our mails are getting a little flirtier... We both acknowledge there is some kind of a strong connection between us that's inexplicable... It might be love but I'm not sure, particularly because I never really knew what real love would look like...
Should I try to make this work after all these years? Or is it doomed from the beginning and do I only live in an illusion?
Tl;dr: Contact again with ex from almost 5 years ago. Had a toxic relationship for past 3 years and 8 months until a month ago and that changed me completely. With the past ex I now feel a very strong connection that goes both ways and I feel like the relationship I couldn't have back then would be perfect for me now, but I don't know if I should try it again.

2020.09.21 00:20 ArchAngel_Haniel People Are Following Me Pt. II (The Nomad Chronicles)

Hello, my name is Xavier. Not really. My legs are just fine but I am... "Special" like the X-Men. I have a Cherokee heritage. Not one of those people who need the research and documentation as my gifts allow me the ability needed to communicate with my ancestors.
Where ever I am (even though they do not talk back to me directly ) and if that is not enough, like most Native Americans, I live all around nature.
Love to be around the animals and believe it or not, for some reason I get along better with them! People used to ask me what if an animal found your "secret stash" and tore, and rip everything to shreds, ate your canned foods.
I tell them "I'm more worried about human beings finding them than the animals." Now, let me see... Where were we last?
Ah, "Michael". Not long after talking to him I met someone who was really an insider of the supernatural world.
Jen, the chick he didn't want me to converse with! Also the other person from the military from part one.
And I soon found out why. Jen was a certified witch from the sunny San Diego California!
She is so cute, and bubbly! She is about five-three, with a one-hundred-twenty-five toned beach body.
Her voice is very feminine and articulate. And she is a big fan of my kind. That's why she gave me a reading for free.
She was in sheer admiration the whole time. That's what I love about this lifestyle, it is so easy to get the hot chicks that most guys wouldn't get the time of day with.
"Hey, Dada!" She beamed, hugging me like we'd known each other all of our lives. Let her tell it we have.
Hey, yourself, Turtle." It's just a cute nickname I'd given her.
"What was so important that you needed to see me?"
"I didn't have to see you, just didn't want to see you kick that guys ass for side-eyeing you." "He's a fucking asshole to me all the time and a good ass-kicking wouldn't have hurt him a bit! Even though it would've."
Though bubbly, there is a quiet danger to her as she never gets angry or disrespectful. But she is no pushover.
If people talk crap to her she will not go back and forth with them. They will not be able to detect her mood either. It's just a way the military trained her to be.
However lethal they made her she is still forgiving and sweet as honey. I should know, I’m her therapist.
"You shouldn't go around beating up men. It's unlady-like."
"Ugh!" She said looking toward the sky. "It's also not sexy." I thought to myself.
"Anyway, you know the guy I told you about. The one who claimed to be Michael."
"Yea," walking with me inside a local Barnes & Noble sitting just outside of Dunwoody, Ga.
"Well, he told me I was one of the Fallen two-hundred Elohim. Some crap about him being a redeemer. Freaking weirdo talking about he loves me and crap."
"But you are such a lovable guyyyy?" She sang in a teasing voice.
"You can love me all you want," I laughed with her, "but he doesn't stand a chance. He had stalkers potential to be honest.
So, I was like I'm going to learn as much as I can and check him when he gets out of line. I had no problem about him offering to move me in with him as there was no chance in hell we would even meet.
I told him my reading and he swears up and down that he is who he says he is up until I told him what my reading was just to get him out of my inbox indefinitely. So, he sends me a screen shot of one of my brothers trying to run the same B-S on him and he wasn't having it!
“Would you believe we taught you how to cuss?” I asked her. She looked at me in blank.
“You would know for sure if you saw it!” I assured her. She bursted into giggles.
“I've never seen someone curse so much in a sentence! So, he goes 'you're just a goon! That's all you are!'. When I read that part I eventually saw what he was trying to say.
“He was sent to kill you?” She said, finishing my sentence. I just nodded. You do not want to speak those types of things in the Universe.
She closed her eyes for a few seconds and said "No," opened them to look at me. "He was trying to control you. He's a nobody, a little boy playing pretend.
“Pay him any mind." Her voice turned stern and serious. "However, the people who have been following you are hitmen."
"What do they want with me?"
"Usually, it is something a person said or did. You are not the only one, and they are everywhere! Like flies, they are all over the place."
"Dammit!"
"It had to have been something you said."
You’re probably wandering where she got all of that information. Jen is not just a Special Forces unit solider. She is also a born-witch.
"My mouth will say what it has to say, no doubt about it," I confirmed. Just didn't know if this was business or revenge. "Jo, my earth angel sister said I was surrounded by angels." It brought a comforting smile to my face. It, however brought a look of horror to Jen's.
By now we'd settled down on the Lazy Boys in the back of the bookstore, where no one was around, but a couple of people would walk by giving me an unusual look. I did not know how to read it, but it was all I needed to know that they were here. It was not aggression, as far as I could see. But they kept staring at me for some reason.
She finally broke the silence with her thoughts. "If that's what she said, there's a good chance these people might not be human." She said flatly.
Update 9/9/2020: Part one and the paragraphs above was about a year ago and some loose change from today. Not long afterwards I was locked up and thought it was utter B.S. and it even seemed staged, but now I am thinking it was for my protection.
As for “Michael,” who’s username was Joshua Bacon, like most agents they send my way and something like that happens to me. They disappear; delete their Facebook pages. As you may have guessed, the guy was a fraud. And he was trying to tell me such things by posting what a wiser sibling of mine said about him via Messenger calling him out.
“You’re just a goon. That’s all you are!”
That is the only thing that sticks out to me now. A complete bitch-move to tell the truth, but hell a lot of military boys do shit like that. These clowns actually believe that they are good guys given the fine detail history of what man is capable of! I don't’ think my siblings are very fond of the military. Probably because of the unspoken war going on as we speak.
Assholes thinking, they can do what they want to do without consequences. Only humans like them are stupid enough to think they can just out muscle Lady Karma Herself.
Michaël is not the angel of death, he (the angel of death), goes by another name. And that pic “Joshua” had of the white eyed guy was not of him. He was a muscle built black guy whom I actually saw in person at a hotel one time, surrounded by white people and wearing the same shirt that I have.
Spoiler alert: those are the “special training” tactics they go thru via the government. This guy is an agent. And he was surrounded by agents. But it is just a reminder of how hilariously stupid these people are. If I thought about it long enough, I would burst in to fits of hysterical laughter.
I will not even state what other things they did so obviously. At that time though I was simply blown away by the information I was distracted from the truth of the situation.
Disclaimer: no, I am not a "skin walker". (Whatever the hell that is.), I am also not a Hunter.
I am what you would call an Archangel, one of the firsts of God’s children. The Archangel of Communication obviously my mission is to bring you guys back to God or more directly our Creators. I am not religious; I just use the term God to dispel confusion and misunderstanding. However, I do not like using the word God, because it is such a blanket statement.
Yet, one little fact that is hardly known will easily put me in the position of the “anti-Christ” to a heavily controlled mind. But let us say that there is more than one God. How did you get here? You are thinking the Holy Spirit, aren’t you? I know quite a few things about spirits. A spirit cannot procreate without a physical vessel. It is basic metaphysics. God and Goddess.
There, I have solved the mystery for you. After all I know you are too afraid to ask. Our Creators do not hate people with common sense. Nobody likes a know-it-all. Not even God. No, worries though. They secret that I have given you is merely common sense. Back to the story!
People are following me. They had my number; my mother's; my grandmother's. Everybody I talked too! And they kept calling my phone and just- I do not know, not saying anything I guess because I could not hear any breathing. But they did that kind of shit. They did certain shit all the time. It got really bad between 2009 and '19. But I did notice patterns.
Their personalities were an actual mimic of myself and my friends! Complete strangers trying much too hard to get on my good side and play under me with these monkey tendencies. For some reason they thought I was not smart enough. Most times I notice it instantly and there were times I did not notice until after I had given them my phone number.
I kept thinking these people are crazy! My small peace was invaded in every way possible; I could not go anywhere without seeing judgement and/or fear in people's eyes when they saw me. Eventually they found out I was a nomad (and no doubt told the public). A few of my friends are nomads. So what? We stick together and look out for one another cause at the end of the day we are out here 24/7.
Probably sleeping mere feet from the boogeymen, you guys have read about here and live to tell about it every day until they put me in the looney bin. (But it does make for a good joke if you are ever trapped in the hood :-).
While we are on the subject thanks for every meal and every cent you have given me over the years! How I got out here is a long one, but I thought you might want to hear the juicy stuff, so I will be writing more often when I have time.
I only have a cheap forty-dollar smartphone with a five-inch-wide screen so bear with me, please. Being out in the sweltering heat and the unmerciful cold all day and night, trust me, your helping hands are genuinely appreciated and needed when it comes to people like me. It does go to good use! With this COVID thing I could be out of here tomorrow.
Furthermore, do not get me wrong it is hard to have the things you may take for granted. But in some of them it was more. Like they knew some terrible things that I did not know about myself. Sometimes even sympathy and I may have never spoken to them at all.
It had to have been because they we are slandering my name. I thought they were FBI because of how they had been implanted at businesses that I swelled in. Be it a coffee shop, sports bar, or even the hospital trying to play the superhero based off the pettiest foundations.
They or it, or those things openly followed me, steal my things. I am not sure exactly why I got so much attention. Again, I do not know how long they have been following me nor why. I have several scenarios and assumptions but none of them really add up. So maybe I can walk you through a few of them and you guys can help me put the missing piece(s).
As I said in Pt. I, for some reason I was always drawn to magic. I do not know if it was the Ouija board that my elder cousin gave me or what. But I can say that that was when the changes started happening. She told me she was giving it to me. That it was to learn the alphabets. In my mind I said, "I'm eight, I already know them." because during the 90s you did not talk back to your elders. I accepted it and the magnifying glass and minded my manners. Plus, my great grandmother was not taking no for an answer.
However, I was intrigued with the magnifier. So, I waited until the night so I can play with them. I had no idea what a Ouija board was, but I did just about everything right. I saw it in horror movies. At least one but it was the first I had seen in real life. And it was all mine!
When the night came, I sat on the floor in my room. But I was skeptical and hesitant. Yet somehow the words came to me as I walked over and simply thought: "if you are real touch me."
On everything I hold dear to my heart and soul I instantly felt human hands tapping me lightly. Several of them from my head to my shoulders! And I got the hell out of the room!
Instantly a seven-year-old becomes afraid of the dark. And it was like that for years. My friends laughed at me.
After I told them why they only laughed harder and I eventually chalked it up to them being too stupid to understand my path.
Made me feel better (shrugs). Nobody likes being laughed at.
Anyway, yes, I was afraid of the dark. I still am. If you are not you are a fool and the jokes on you, not me. And a gun is not a sure bet.
I like the way this one guy said in a horror TV show I like to watch. Which is based on real life step-by-step rules of the paranormal.
Dean was talking to Sam in defense of someone's case. He said "- he's got to be pretty smart to be afraid of the dark, you know what's out there!"- my favorite line in all 14 seasons!
As if the previous happenings were not enough, I found out these people may or may not be working for the government.
There have been several times I have been minding my own business, daydreaming, or thinking to myself and people would look at me and respond to the things I have said in my head!
Mostly smile and laugh cause, hey, I am a pleasure to accompany. But that was the only time I knew they were listening.
But I knew they were not here to do party tricks. This makes me extremely uncomfortable no doubt about it. But that pales to comparison to what happened in '18. I meant a fucking Orisha. Her name is Oshun. Since when do people thousands of years old work for the government??

2020.09.21 00:07 AlmanacPony The Session Where Everything Burned~ Vaepratian Stories The Best Session Ever

This is the best session of D&D I have ever participated in, or even heard. The cinematics, the dramatics, the power and the result.
This is the story of a fathers betrayal, a son's revenge, and a kind nature clerics wrath upon a city that would burn...
(Warning: VERY Long... VERY worth it. Perspectives shift as a lot happened simultaniously.)
Firstly, those of you that read one or two of my things may know me from these stories:
How my Players Broke my Campaign in the BEST way:
part 1: How my players broke my campaign in the BEST way part 1
part 2: How my Players broke my campaign in the BEST way part 2
(They were also narrated by "All Things D&D" here: Naration Part 1 Naration Part 2)
And subsequent Vaepratian stories with various groups:(Vaepratian Stories) The Adventurers Journal of Dadirk the Bugbear part 1
And this last link is to a story within Vaepratia that involves this very group, and the cleric within this very story:
(Vaepratian Stories) The Cleric's Test of Metal and Faith
(90% of this campaign is a personal homebrew, especially gods)
First... a background.
The group was made up of an Elven Ranger named Kida; strong with a bow, in search of her sister. A fae kitsune Plague-Doctor named Hira; wise in the ways of the fae, seeking to find said sister as well, and free his people. A human Cleric, named Nim; anciently slept within a divine white tree under his god Lanar, then taken as the future avatar of the goddess Jaenn. He was wise, and kind, and always thought the best of people. And finally, a young Vampire named Sage De La Fontain. Only nineteen years old, created through science affixed within the womb; sheltered within a rich home until they had run and escaped. (Party also contains an NPC Thruk, a Lizard folk Gloom Stalker Ranger.)
Throughout their journey they had been to several towns. In each town an apothecary seemed to always be present. Within would be an old crone by the name of Radeska. The shop would change, customers would change, the building would change, but always it seemed the same woman. She claimed she had sisters in almost every city, but she always seemed to know them when they entered. It did not take their Kitsune companion, Hira, long to realise that she was no crone. She was a Hag. A powerful and old being of the fae that were unpredictable, this one more so than other hags might be. For Radeska was insane.
The barrier than lined the land of Vaepratia kept the gods from reaching in, and that included the Fae gods. Trapped within this land, unable to break through back into the world of the fae, her personality and mind fragmented through several hundred versions of herself throughout the land, Radeska lived in all moments, at all time. She would shout into an empty corner, talking to customers that were elsewhere. She would feed her regrowing fingers to carnivorous plants, and harvest the blood of the young soon-to-be avatar of the goddess Jaenn, Nim, seeing his divine blood as special as it could connect with the gods in a land that couldn't.
Radeska was a mystery slowly unfurling, and she had proven invaluable for almost anything they could need. Slowly but surely, they warmed to her strange ways, her insane bouts of logic, her high prices suddenly shifting lower than their attempted barters, and always her willingness to help. But something was hidden behind her eyes, always it was a sadness, and a depth of a past that had yet to be understood.
Within the city of Kalo, Sage's family, his parents, were addicted to a substance known as Fespain Spices. He had left his home in search of those that would help. He had never ventured from his city of Kalo, but after doing so he had joined this party and they had agreed to help him under contract, though they had refused to take Sage's money, wanting to instead simply show a kindness.
Their journey had allowed them to stand within the city walls of Kalo. Adventures had taken hold. They'd made friends with the local thieves, found their drug cartels, helped manufacture a better non-addictive version of the drug, and sought to allow the poor of the city to instead become successful businessmen. But for such a venture to take hold, it required capital the poor did not have.
Sage's family were rich and addicted, it was assumed that if they could provide the capital behind the venture and the guards would sign off on this non-addictive safer substance of the drug, then it would be profitable and helpful to steer said parents to a cleaner lifestyle, and save the city from a rising gang war between the dealers of Fespain Spices.
And so, they sought the rich. The mansion stood before them. Their Elven Ranger, Kida, had left to deal with her own business within the town, leaving only Sage, Hira, and Nim to deal with the negotiations with Sage's family.
Their weapons surrendered, they entered a magically sealed mansion to treat with the rich and the addicted. They were met by a butler named Raphile.
"Go to your room, Master Sage. Your mother will be with you shortly." Raphile demanded, and so Sage, head low, went to their room. Immaculate as it was, a show-room more than a private space, for no place was private in the home they had grown up with, confined under watch and guard, never allowed free, never to be allowed normalcy.
Nim and Hira were guided to a drawing room. Books and items from across the lands were laid across the shelves, and as they explored the trinkets, a stern man entered. Sage's father.
Sage's mother entered the young vampire’s room simultaneously, both looking at each other, the mother a worried expression across her gaze.
"Why did you run away?"
Sage didn't answer, he just watched his mother.
"The world is dangerous out there for you."
"My friends understand me." Sage argued.
"They understand coin." His mother replied stiffly. "They are with you because you hired them, nothing more. They are not your friends. Now get ready for dinner. Enough of this foolishness."
Sage's father looked between the two men sat before him. "I am led to believe you were hired by my son, Sage. Is this true?"
"Yes, sir." Hira answered, Nim nearby threading his fingers together as he fidgeted.
"You were hired under false pretences. The money used to hire you was stolen, some one thousand gold. A paltry sum, but the amount is not the point. Though I am glad Sage has returned, outside is not safe for him. I am sure you are aware of his condition?"
"We are." Hira replied. "And we value him as a companion."
"He cannot be a companion. He needs to be here at home. Here they may receive blood in safety, they can avoid the sun and not be misunderstood. Out there, without a supply, Sage might frenzy. What if you were attacked, or one of you were too tempting while you slept?"
Nim finally spoke, leaning forward, his brow narrowed. "I would gladly tear open my own flesh to make sure Sage was safe."
A silence descended as Sage's father and Nim gazes at each other grimly.
Hira leaned forward, clearing his throat. "We were hired because your son is concerned for you. He worries the Fespain Spices are a danger. If they are not taken constantly, it can degrade the body, and he worries for the addiction."
"Then it is good we have plenty of a supply!" He snapped in anger. "We also have an excellent physician. Your duty here is not needed, as your contract was with my son with our stolen money, your contract is in fact with myself and this house. Consider it fulfilled and be on your way." Mr De La Fontain stood, turning his back to them and reaching for the door.
"We have Fespain Spices that come without the negative effects." Hira's words stopped Sage's father in mid-motion.
He slowly turned to look at Hira and his smile grew. "Well, why did you not say this was a business transaction?" He turned and sat back down. "Tell me more."
Hira cleared his throat and began to explain, how he had met a doctor (neglecting to say said doctor was himself)_ who had managed to modify the Fespain Spices so it came without the negatives and wasn’t addictive, and they had a large supply and were able to grow said supply themselves rather than importing it, as well as providing a potion brewed by Bartma, the local necromancer, that would help cure the current negative effects of addiction so a transition to the non-addictive formula would be easier.
Sage's father looked thoughtful. "This is an opportunity. I will provide capital for this venture, but I get to set the price, I wish to take charge of the operation."
Hira knew what this was, an obvious ploy by a rich man for even more money. He attempted to back away from the deal, to give them more time; "I do not have the authori-"
"Do not lie to me." Mr De La Fontain snapped. "I am a businessman; I know when one is speaking with authority and when one is but a puppet. You will provide me with a week’s supply, one of these potions, and if I deem it worthy, I will provide the capital. Yes or no." He offered his hand.
Hira, knowing he had to help these poor people, reached out and agreed to the deal.
"Good, now you are invited to sup with us."
The dining room was opulent, with an oak table decorated with gold inlay, upon which sat succulent meats and fresh vegetables. A veritable feast for them, and a cup of blood for Sage.
Sage's father sat at one end of the table, his mother at the other. Nim and Hira sat at one side and Sage the other. Sage had dressed himself in his dinner wear, over his armoured barding in case he felt he needed it. He had no intention of staying here like a prisoner once more.
Nim looked over at the food before him, remembering how tensions had risen before, he closed his eyes and disguising his words as a long prayer, he blessed the food and drink around them to be purified of any poison that might have entered them, though there didn't seem to be any.
"Are you a man of god?" The father asked.
Nim nodded. "I am a studier of a way long lost to this land." He replied vaguely, speaking of his clerical ability, a power lost for the last 50 years as the god's power within the land had been broken.
"Interesting." The father nodded. "I must thank you for returning Sage to me."
"I don't plan on staying." Sage replied. "I want to continue adventuring with them."
The father scoffed. "Out of the question."
"He is safe with us." Hira tried to say, but the father shook his head.
"Absolutely not. Where would you get blood? No, the outside is no place for you!"
Nim stood from his seat, the table going silent as he reached over and snatched the cup of blood from Sage's grasp. He raised his hand and, locking eyes with the father, slit his palm bloodily with a blade, letting his life-force drain into the cup. He then placed it in front of Sage and sat back down.
"How theatrical." The father sighed. "Do you need medical attention?"
"No need." Nim raised his hand, and with a cast of Cure Wounds. The father watched in shock as the wound healed.
Sage's mother stood in shock while the father seemed to muse.
"You could make a profit."
Silence descended. "Pardon?" Nim asked with a low growl.
"Yes, you could make quite the profit. From the injured and sick poor alone, you could charge a pittance and still make a fortune. I could set you up with capital. You could help a lot of people-"
"And line your pockets."
"-That is the way of things."
"To step on those under you?"
"How naive." The father sighed at the cleric. "This is the way things are. There will always be poor. The world cannot function as nice and gentle, because it only works if everyone plays by the same rules. And there will always be those that don't. The only way to protect what’s yours and you care about, is to amount the capital. You must Take, my boy."
Nim's eyes were ablaze with anger. "My power is not to be used for personal profit or gain. It is a gift to help those in need, not to line the pockets of the rich!"
Sage kicked Nim from under the table, to try and get him to calm down, but Nim had grown in anger by this point, at the audacity of his nature being even suggested to be used for capitalistic means.
"It is people like you that destroy this world. That destroy societies and their people!"
The father stood too, both Nim and Mr De La Fontain on their feet, the heat in the air palpable in each other’s rage. "It is because of people like me that society exists at all!"
"Why was I adopted?"
The question broke the anger and tension. Everything went quiet and slowly sage's father looked to his vampiric son.
Gentle both Nim and Sage's father sat back down. The father and mother shared a look and the mother nervously, and with a sadness in her eyes opened her mouth to speak but the father's raised hand quietened her.
"Your mother succumbed to an illness in her younger years." Sage's father began. "She is infertile. We needed a child for our heir and social stature within the family and the houses. We couldn't go by the usual adoption channels, so we sought out one off-the-books, as they say. He provided a child of similar countenance to ourselves. We did not know your true nature, but he would not trade you for another and we were desperate. So, we took you in, we raised you, we clothed you, fed you, sheltered you. And we would expect some gratitude for this." He glared at Sage, who steadfastly stared into his cup of blood.
By this point the father noticed that the others had finished their food. "You should all leave."
"We would like Sage to come with us." Hira said firmly.
The father shook his head. "Absolutely not, he is a danger to others, himself, and you cannot look after him."
Sage looked to his father and shook his head. "I can look after myself. I could visit, I came back didn't I?"
"No, I need you here."
"Couldn't you get another child?"
"One that does not know the etiquette? How to meet with dignitaries? How to approach the courts? No, you are needed here."
Hira's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Why do you need him?"
"My business is my own. He is my son. Sage, go to your room, the doctor will be here tomorrow to check you over. And you both, leave my house this instant." The father growled. "And I will expect the first shipment of our dealings, tomorrow."
Sage was sent to his room, Nim and Hira left.
Nim was a kind soul, he loved things that grew, things that flowered, and birds and trees. In a grove near the city, he had created a white-tree holy grove to the gods, a place that should the gods return to the land, would instantly become sacred. A spot of the gods in a place that had been touched by darkness.
But there was no spot of the gods where he stood now. In the middle of the street, his fists clenched, anger seething through him.
"Are you alright?" Hira asked, his own temper having flared at dealing with the obstinate rich man.
"No. I have to go. I have something to do." Nim said darkly, and slowly he walked off.
Sage left the dining room and went up to his room. His windows had been sealed magically, the wood now fused together leaving not a crack to be seen, now entirely unopenable. He heard the tell-tale sounds of guards at his door.
Hira, in the middle of the street, signed and headed down a different street to go meet the necromantic mortician, Bartma, for his first lesson in a necromantic spell, Speak with the Dead. He made his way down into the bowels of her shop and found her standing over the corpse of a young man between 18-20. His organs on display.
"Are ve ready?" She asked in her strong accent, her dark countenance gazing at the kitsune.
Hira nodded and approached, looking over the corpse. The skin was sallow and pale, but not unhealthy. The organs laid bare and exposed and he noticed both the kidney and liver had been taken.
"What happened to him?"
"Zey happen a few times a year, around ze same age. Young ones. I deal vis ze bodies but ze never have much to say. We vill revive zis one, listen, and likely hear ze same story as before. Zat zey were drugged, zat zey have no knowledge of who did zis to them. But alvays, the organs are harvested."
And together, they began working on the ritual.
Nim arrived at the door of Radeska's shop. He opened it silently to find it empty, its dark vials of eyeballs and leaves from long dead plants, and brains and chemicals lining the room seemed to be gazing down at him as he made his way through the back to the garden.
He found her in a circle of stones, different flowers around each stone, and she seemed to be whispering to them.
A door sounded low in the mansion and Sage glanced to the door as it opened without a knock or respect of privacy. "The doctor is here, I called him early." His father told him. "Come with me."
Sage nodded, intending to be out of here as soon as he could. He would break free like he had last time if he could.
Hira worked over the ritual, trying his best to understand the dark ways that he had to tap into for such a power to work, and slowly he felt it work through him.
"Radeska." Nim began.
"Yes, my dear? The stars are speaking loudly tonight." She answered with a small cackle.
"I need to talk to someone."
"Then I will listen, my dear. The stars will listen. Perhaps others will listen too." She answered cryptically with a grin.
Sage was led down the stairs and to the dining room. The doctor stood there, wild hair, goggles, his countenance strange and a wide grin spread across his face. "We have had to move up schedule. Do come with." He encouraged and together they headed through the kitchen, down into the basement.
The magic flowed through Hira and he watched as the corpse took a deep rattling breath, its body arching and coughing lowly. It slowly looked to both Bartma and Hira.
"What happened to you?" Asked Hira.
Nim leaned against a stone, eyeing the old fae crone before him as she whispered sweet nothings to flowers and stone and stars. "What would you do if someone you cared for was taken prisoner? If they were ripped from you?"
"I would do as I did, darling. I would burn it all." Her voice took on a dark tone as she looked over her shoulder at him. "I was mother once. Not true mother, but mother. A mother in the eyes of one and she was taken from me. So, I burned it all down. I cracked the city under fire."
The world seemed to grow a shade darker as the hag spoke.
"So, what should I do?"
"That depends." She answered with a manic grin. "To the one that has been taken. Are you the mother to them?"
Sage descended into the basement, the cold stone beneath their feet. They remembered their journey, meeting their friends, hanging onto the clerics every word. He had held to him and Nim had been kind, and always there for him. He longed to be free and back to the one that had shown him fatherly affection, not the stoic man before him.
A table stood in the middle of the room.
"Lay on it, please." The doctor said, a gleam in their eyes.
The corpse gazed up at Hira and opened its mouth to speak. It was then that Hira noticed something. Vampiric Fangs. "Doctor..." It spoke in a rattled breath.
"A... vampire..."
"Yez." Said Bartma. "One created by science. Zey are good for organ harvesting. Once at ripe age, zere organs are stronger, hardier zan normal humans, good for transplants if one wants stronger liver or stronger heart. Ve know not who iz doing it-"
Bartma barely had time to finish before Hira was rushing from the room, charging up the stairs and out of the shop. He knew this had been wrong, he suddenly understood. HE UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING!
Radeska looked to the kind cleric, seeing the rage and conflict within him. "Are they safe where they are?"
"No." Nim answered quickly, knowing they weren’t. He imagined the man that called himself Sage's father, the way he hadn't even looked up as Sage would enter a room. How he said he needed Sage for something. How Sage was nothing bur property for him, a convenience for him. How he would besmirch the gods, how he would use and devour the poor for profit... and Nim's rage grew.
"Then should you burn it?" Radeska asked, a glint in her eyes.
Nim looked up to her slowly, the rage consuming him. "I should burn it."
The hag cackled and the world grew even darker, she stepped up to him and Nim fell to his knees. Her palms pressed to Nim's forehead, and Nim began to scream in pain.
Sage was not stupid; he could tell the doctor meant him harm. Everything felt wrong, everything WAS wrong. His senses were amped up, he could smell the blood and heartbeat of every guard in the house and he knew they were close. He stepped towards the table, feeling the guards near him tense as though ready to force him onto it.
Hira barrelled through the city, down the alleys, into the rich quarter, and towards the mansion as fast as he could.
Nim looked up as Radeska's eyes turned black, the iris ringed with purple, black flame licked through his body and his nerves were on fire. Black flame suddenly erupted around Radeska’s house, red flame caught light and the street around Radeska's shop suddenly exploded in hot black fire and slowly the pain receded.
Nim's eyes turned black, and he stood up, and without bidding he began to walk. He left the shop, and as Nim stepped onto the stone, the power that rushed through him began to burn through each step, the ground below soon wreathed in hot fire.
Sage launched himself at the doctor, his fangs glinting, soon sinking into flesh and with a tear, he ripped the throat from the doctor, blood drooling down his face as he stood over the corpse. Guards drew their blades and ran forwards.
Hira found a storm cellar to the basement, and using acid to melt the lock, burst in behind the guards, casting Blight on the nearest one and watching as the man screamed and shrivelled into a corpse, falling down into a bloody pile of offal.
The ground beneath Nim began to become wreathed in black vines that flickered with black fire. And every step the street rotted away, every sure step forward had the ground behind him collapsing into the sewers below, the black flames engulfing the buildings, screams erupting into the night as citizens burned under a good man’s wrath.
The other guard cried out in shock at the death of his comrade and he fled, running from the basement up and out into the night, only to stare in wide eyes as a monster approach. The cleric, eyes black with purple rings, stepped forward, the city behind him wreathed in black fire that engulfed its screaming inhabitants, and the guard fell to his knees in shock and dismay.
The cleric raised his hands, and he summoned the spirit guardian of his goddess, who was immediately wreathed in black fire and vines. Its divine heart soon blackened within under the black flame, the vines engulfed it and formed a husk and the guardians countenance turned dark to the guard. With a raised hand, vines erupted from the ground and engulfed the guard, snaking into flesh and through orifices, penetrating bone and skin and the man screamed as he was crucified upon the vines.
Nim headed to the front door, the anti-magic spells immediately crippled under the power bestow upon them by the empowered cleric. The doors were crumpled into shattered remnants under the constricting grip of black vines as Nim stepped into the house.
The father and mother rushed from the basement back up into the house, they entered the foyer to escape and stopped in their tracks.
There Nim was, silhouetted by the city. The screams had died down, everyone was already dead. The city burned and grumbled behind him, and his silhouette was punctuated by the glowing purple rings of each black pupil of the cleric’s eyes.
"P-please.." The father tried to plead.
Sage and Hira rushed out, for their first time, seeing what Nim had become.
It was Hira that had suddenly realised. He knew what this was. He had felt aspects of Radeska's power whenever she would cast, but it wasn't now that he understood what she was. The Fae were divinely made, and bred with other beings. In the beginning, the gods of the fae gave birth to the first fae, who would then overtime, give birth to more fae and down the line it went. The first fea were the Arch-Fae. Radeska wasn't just old. She was the oldest.
Their power was almost that of the gods, wreathed and born from their divine power directly and wild magic could be called to their will as a toy for a child, remaking things as they saw fit.
And he knew this sense. He knew which god had created Radeska. The mad crone had been created by Mika, the Goddess of Torment and Strife. The fae gods were about survival and fear, their world separated from the others, and Mika was very different than her cousins. The god Nikelor was the god of fear; and fear kept you vigilant and alive. He was a god of survival over vigilance. Nealoc, was the god of darkness and sorrow. He was about the WILL to survive, the need to overcome grief and survive even as others didn't. But Mika... Mika was the goddess of the POWER to survive.
When humans met fey, Fey were slaughtered in the thousands in hatred and misunderstanding. And so, she was born. She was invoked when a sword is drawn. She was invoked when magic is cast upon an enemy. She was invoked when the desire and the fear to survive, must then be followed by action.
This was the goddess that had forged Radeska, an ancient hag that had split her mind and personality down to fragments, a being of immense power, insane by time and isolation. And she had become the patron for a cleric... a good man, turned to madness in his rage.
"My gods... Nim, what have you done?" Hira's gasp and prayer were small, but heard nonetheless.
A single tear slipped down Nim's cheek, before it froze, and then broke into dust upon the wind.
He first looked to the mother, he raised his staff, a piece of the divine tree he had been reborn from, a gift from his god Lanar, a symbol of his devotion to his goddess Jaenn, and raised it high. The stick shattered, splinters burying into wall and stone, the roof of the building exploding above them, the wind ripping through the area and the mother gasped as she felt her womb heal and her life restored to her. She knew what this gift was for, and she stood and ran from the house, she ran until her legs ached, and then she ran some more. Leaving the burning city behind.
Vines began to grow, they began to wrap around the father, gripping him tightly, his head was pulled to the side and he was turned and presented in his agony and fear to Sage. Sage looked upon the man that had tried to harvest his organs. He stepped forward.
"You were supposed to care about me."
"Please, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I'll give it all up, I'll become poor, just please, let me li-GLK!" His words were cut off by the vines clenching around his throat. Sage reached forward and his fingers began to dig into flesh. A silent scream shook the father as Sage's fingers ripped free her father’s eyes, eyes that he had looked through with so much greed. He then forced them into his father’s mouth, making him swallow his own flesh before he reached in, bit down deep, and ripped flesh from bone.
Silence descended. Nim felt sanity return and slowly the power calmed. It still throbbed within him, able to be called on, but it was time to leave. Slowly they left, Thruk waited with the carriage, having followed their scent, and the three of them climbed into the carriage, and they began to run.
As they left, the vines began to secrete a healing mucus that began to revive the father, only for him to scream as vines tore into his flesh. He was raised, his body shaking as he was healed and skewered again and again, the vines dragging him from the house, the splinters of the clerics staff erupting in shoots and roots that grew bark and trunks, and soon, from that house a tidal wave of black tree's began to rip through the streets and houses, uprooting everything, the flames licked at the black leaves as though they were friends, and the city of Kalo was soon engulfed in a black forest... with a single living soul at its centre, writhing and screaming in agony in a never ending cycle of healing and destruction, for all eternity.
Nim's eyes fell closed, and as the power left him, he felt his soul transported to a different plane. There before him stood the spirit guardian, in the centre of the ring of stones, engulfed in vines and blackness, the shattered visage of his goddess above him, and Radeska now beside him.
God and Arch-Hag looked at each other, and the mad woman grew a large grin.
"I suppose we should have a chat."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am unsure of what the elven ranger was doing during this, she wasn't able to be in the session. She'll have a mini session soon that will determine what she was doing elsewhere in the city during its destruction. And a mini session for the cleric will happen soon to see if the goddess abandons him, ripping from him his cleric powers, only for them to be replaced with Radeska as his patron, now a warlock, or if they shall share his body in half light and half-darkness.
I do not know.
This session was fuelled by rage. The political arguments were a Rich vs Poor, arguments heard so many times during actual discussions, and the anger and rage against Sage's parents was true and real for the player of the Cleric, as much as it was for the player of the kitsune plague-doctor Hira. This was close to home for the vampiric Sage as well, as many family aspects were taken from their real family. The control, the isolation, the callous disregard...
This was a close to home story, that culminated in a way I could never have foreseen. I have had players upset a campaign by killing someone important, I have had them level city blocks, I have had them manipulate crime bosses... but never have I had them render a whole city unto ash. I have never seen them raze a place to the ground. I have never seen such palpable anger as the rich and poor alike would just burn with everyone else.
Suffice to say, alignments changed, and so will the future. The political ramifications of this will be insane, and I for one... can't wait to find out how it all turns out.

2020.09.21 00:05 AlmanacPony The Session Where Everything Burned~ Vaepratian Stories The Best Session Ever

EDITED: To fix the GOD AWEFUL spelling and grammar mistakes.

2020.09.20 23:13 CorvidTested Roadside Reality 6: Bottom Text

I'm really not good at sticking to schedules am I? Apologies again, this time I decided to get some fucking direction for the story so that I can ignore it again like Araki ignores Star Finger. As this story went on I familiarised myself with a fair bit of Xeelee lore, because I'm a lorewhore. I may or may not take liberal amounts of artistic inspiration. I'm sorry Stephen Baxter.
Back /
Roadside Reality 6
Styx’s blood ran colder than ice through her. Something in her head was telling to simply lie down and die and it screamed louder by the second. She’d never had to deal with a mortal threat without her retinue before. For the first time in the Princess’ life, one of her servants was in a position to threaten her.
“GUARDS!” She screamed, her heart picking up by the second. The Precursor groaned in annoyance from across the room before yelling across the room.
“I’ve got fields isolating us, just hear me out.”
“What are you planning? Just state your price, the Empire will pay any ransom!” She sputtered, reaching into her suit jacket frantically, obviously searching for a gun.
“Oh relax, that’s not anything like what I have in mind. Now if you’ll just calm down and liste-” Pontus placated until something rang out, tinkling against a distant wall. Styx had found her ornate ballistic pistol and fired a shot, missing wildly and hitting the ground beside the human. He looked down to the metallic skid mark left by the bullet as it had skidded off to bounce off a wall. He looked back to the adrenaline-high royal and sighed.
What was he planning? Styx had been told horror stories by the nanny that raised her ever since she was able to understand what the patient old lady was saying. Stories of royals being ransomed at prices high enough to stop entire crusades. Others were executed live across the galaxy in a variety of methods. Others were taken as living trophies for propaganda, or worse.
Styx wouldn’t let that happen to her. The gun in her hands shook violently without her even pulling the trigger. Adrenaline paradoxically rendered her unable fire accurately. She felt a pinprick in her neck. The world grew hazy. It was long past too late to do anything about it by the time her addled mind had caught onto what had struck her.
--
Styx grumbled awake with a headache in her post-ebony bed, pulling the sheets up to her face to block out the evening sun. She felt like she had just had a dream, but the details were evading her focus. Her eyes hurt, her muscles ached and she felt raw. The grogginess gradually gave way as some of her personal doctors inspected monitors linked to suction cups following her under the sheets. The doctors looked past her for a moment, at someone else, then left the room with a nod.
“Still in recoil from adrenaline huh? You’ll be fine, just don't push yourself for a while.” A faintly masculine voice cooed. It was that damned Pontus. Styx tried to get up, but she hit her drastically reduced limits before she could even slightly elevate herself.
“What happened?” Styx croaked, her voice raspy and her throat dry. Why was he not smothering her while she was so vulnerable? Almost every subject she had ever met would probably do so in a heartbeat. There was gentle shuffling of footsteps, then the human made themself visible at her bedside.
“I was trying to explain the nature of how I intend to help you, but I must not a great communicator. You panicked and your adrenaline went through the roof. I had to put you under with a nanobot-loaded dart.” He explained gently, adding a pillow under her back, then her head to elevate the Imperial into a talking position.
“Nanobot? I’ve got little robots inside of me right now?” Styx asked.
“In your brain too.” He snapped his fingers, and the fog cleared from her mind like the crack of lightning. Styx tried to bolt out of bed in sheer shock, but her muscles bawled at the notion.
“What have you done to me?” She whispered sharply, looking to her bedside for anything within reach that could be a weapon. She could barely lift that crystal bedside lamp with both hands, presuming she could get both of them there. She could think relatively clearly, but her emotions levelled themselves the moment they could spiral into extremity.
“The nanobots are very much compatible with your brain, so to stop you from panicking again and making a proper mess of yourself, I’m using the nanobots to inhibit your emotional rollercoaster. The physical however, is purely from your... ‘immortality’ treatments. No wonder you’ve got the road paved so much for you, if the slightest bit of adrenaline flows through you, your entire system collapses. Very messy.”
The memories of warnings from her old nanny came back to haunt her. Go too fast, skip your bread, by the doorstep you’ll be dead. Imperial propaganda had an entire division for spinning news away from fainting royals that got an adrenaline hit in public. Every Royal Imperial and some of the richer nobles got the treatment for immortality drugs as children, leaving them physically handicapped for life. So much of the dressing and framing of Royals were to strike imposing, inspiring figures to lord over the galactic masses, to hide the fact that almost all royals were doughier than a bakery.
He was able to suppress what might have killed her on that quartz floor? Almost worth the definite treachery going about. Speaking of which.
“Since I’m at your mercy, you might as well tell me the details of your coup, if you’re one to gloat.” Styx sighed, falling back limp into her pillowy prison.
“I’m not out to oust you. In fact, I want to elevate you to the highest position of power possible in your Empire. How’s that sound?” The precursor offered with a smug grin.
“Where’s the catch?” She answered, narrowing her eyes.
“You won’t be given control of the technology, only access. I’m offering you power in exchange for your cooperation. You ask for a fleet to subjugate the galaxy, you get one, but you won’t be getting the technology itself. How’s that sound?”
Styx pondered the thought. She couldn’t think of any scheme that involved keeping her alive up to this point, other than using her as a pawn. In fact, the only reason she was still alive could only be for recruiting, as he’d almost explicitly stated. Styx weighed the likelihood of the human killing her where she lay the moment she refused. He had nanotechnology in amongst her neurons, that was easily within his capacity. But if he had that in her brain, could he not simply compel her to do his bidding like some Pavlovian puppet?
The situation as it was could be a few different scenarios with very different endgames, but she knew the human had her in a checkmate. The only way forward was to take his offer.
“I’ll take your offer, but it better be a very powerful position.” Styx answered, to the human’s joy.
“Wonderful! Now your Empire is founded on the story of Queen Gaia, using the gifts of an ancient and powerful god, seizing the known galaxy for her own folk. With my power, you can be that new Queen, taking your Empire away from the treacherous siblings you have in multitudes.” Pontus encouraged, haunting Styx in his subtle glee at the coming storm that would inevitably come in this proposed crusade for political power.
She then questioned her reaction to the notion itself. Try as the Imperial propaganda may to make the Olympian Royal family look cultured, the Royal family was really just a bunch of blue-bloods either being left on the wayside with a secure job and no prospect of a future beyond being a footnote in a footnote of history, or being a short-lived footnote in history of how they tried to play the political game and got eaten by the big players. She lived in fear of her older siblings every day.
It was utterly irrational not to use the lifeline this precursor was giving her, paving the road for an ascension towards her life goal. She just had to make sure that she wasn’t replaced as a pawn, to be sure that she would be on that throne.
She snapped out of her thoughts when a series of articulate holograms drew themselves above her comfortable rest. They were a pair of planets. Earth and Mars, judging from the rings on each hologram. Earth shrunk into a blue marble while Mars hogged the focus of size. Points on the rings magnified themselves to show giant shipyards.
“There is an issue that I need you to handle though. Your brother Pallas is approaching the system.” Pontus stated, making Styx reflexively try to dart out of bed. A brief yelp of pain followed, before Styx resolved to ask Pontus instead.
“How can you be sure?” She asked, the brief flames of pain settling down.
“I communicate faster than light with closed-time-like-curves connected to sensor fields make of articulated spacetime. I am picking up a gravitic anomaly passing through these nets that is consistent with a fleet about twice the size of yours. From what I gather, only one person you know would bring that much firepower to a backwater like this.” He flatly answered, big words passing over her. She got enough though to get that he was confident it was her accursed older brother. What the hell could she do now? Her fleet was still docked and wouldn’t be able to take on Pallas’ fleet regardless of where she placed her fleet in the solar system.
One option left. She turned her head to Pontus, who was already smiling.
“Of course, I’d never just drop you off in front of his fleet and call it day. I’ll ferry you in a ship of my own design, and you can give the announcement that he can fuck off to his own little hovel.” He answered happily. Styx felt relief wash over her, visibly.
“You just need to make the announcement that you’re the successor to Gaia, then I teleport you out of his bridge, back onto my sailboat and I force the fleet out with their own FTL drive.” You better act like the Queen I’m hiring, got it?” Pontus added, pointing a playful finger. Styx gave a wordless satisfied smile. The human nodded and stood up from beside her bed.
“He’ll be here in an hour. The nanobots should have you capable of moving with minor discomfort by then. I’ll be sculpting my ship for when he arrives; meet me outside the tower when you get your inevitable courier from Pallas.” He said as he departed for the door. As the door closed, the reality just set in for Styx. She had a precursor on her side.
--
The foretold hour passed and a tense guard entered her room, accompanying her admiral. The weathered Imperial man handed her another panel with Pallas’ message written across it. In preceding minutes her doctors had added adrenaline blockers to her IV bag, thinking she hadn’t noticed. She calmly read the message and nodded to the man, who looked almost more worried, seemingly mistaking her passiveness to the message as some kind of quiet defeat.
“Let’s go see Pontus, he said he’d be at the door when this came through.” She answered calmly. She donned a flowing, white silky dress her fashion attendant picked after she asked for the ‘most elegant dress befitting a most elegant woman’. After being adorned in emerald and gold jewellery to accentuate her presence and engineered beauty, she made for the grand tower door. Almost everyone she passed by simply stopped what they were doing; silence followed her. When she reached the door, silence finally caught up with her.
Pontus was there, and his ship was too. She had been expecting some grand ornate ship, given how much effort he must’ve put into designing the halls of this tower and the entire system so intricately. She’d been expecting some ornate ship with enough guns to deflower a civilisation, with his power. Some grand petal of death and destiny, not... this.
It was the size of a cosy ground-to-space shuttle, about 20 metres long and 15 wide, in the shape of a flattened acorn. The back end of the ship narrowed into the barest approximations of aerofoil like tips, abruptly capping off in a way similar to atmospheric fighter crafts’ missile mounts. The material itself was like a livelier version of the ebony she’d seen so far. It actively rippled waves of blue under the surface like gentle, if visibly present waves of water. But past the waves it was a translucent glass-like material that was seemingly stained slightly black. There were barely visible disturbances past the glassy material, indicative of movement within.
The craft deformed, three rod-like protrusions coagulating under the surface to push it off the ground like the landing gears of the shuttle it only made the slightest gesture to resemble. The craft (if it could be called so) deformed again, a perfect hole drawing itself in the now exposed, dirt-absent front underside. Pontus strode out with an incomprehensible smile on his face.
“What the fuck is this!?” Styx whispered sharply at him as he approached personal range.
“This is the shuttle. What’s wrong?” He answered dumbly as any man she’d met. Had someone else of his race designed the tower then? He must’ve just been holding the fort; he was utterly lacking in aesthetic sense.
“Oh Elder beyond... damn this fool. Right, can you fix your ship before anyone sees me in this?” Styx asked even sharper, knowing this was a man that would just make a practical ship that would ruin the thunder of her entrance. Like he just did.
“What needs fixing? Look, it’s geometric, elegant, to-the-point, it’s... you just wanted some externally pretty metal boat, didn’t you?” he answered, deflating progressively with a pantomime of wounded feelings. She held back only because of the public setting and her current dress, shame to let her fashionista’s work on makeup go to shame, now wouldn’t it?
“I am absolutely not going into some... some... glass bottle just because you made it!” She very eloquently put, frustration bubbling just below the adrenaline caps. Pontus sighed audibly and glanced back at the ship. She briefly felt It make Itself known on the borders of her mind, sifting through her presumptions of an Elder aesthetic. She didn’t fight it, for lack of capability, and in case she had another rush, this one public. It quietly passed through her, and the ship visibly altered, warping slightly with a darker hue to the crystal shell, and solid lines of gold drawing to the now 6 slightly lengthened ‘wing’ tips.
It now followed more of the tower aesthetic, but had the Royal insignia adorning its head, on top and bottom faces. Was this also a spacecraft? Styx noticed as well that the Royal insignia wasn’t alone. The Fleur-De-Lis of House Olympia was encased in a shell-like symbol that strongly resembled what she suspected to be a top-down look on the current shuttle. But it also wasn’t. The shuttle-shell had some kind of wings stretching off the end of the aerofoils that wasn’t on the current shuttle. It looked like a sycamore seed, if a bit stout.
The sycamore tree was some holy tree according to the teaching of the Imperial Orthodoxy. Had this human’s ancestors played a role in the Empire’s development in the past? That wasn’t a concern now. It occurred to Styx that the morphing of the ship was some middle ground in design, seemingly mediated by It. Styx still had her doubts. It was still glass. She couldn’t arrive in front of Pallas in something like this. Before she made her doubts vocal, Pontus looked her in the eyes with that same deceptive age, and snapped his fingers. Styx blinked, and the shuttle wasn’t there. The sonic boom hit her before she realised that dark dot in the sky was the shuttle.
It had moved faster than she could see. In an atmosphere. It must be incredibly tough to not fracture under the atmospheric stress, never mind the immense structural stress of what she presumed was an inertial drive. Elders beyond, that was ridiculous material engineering! He’d said he’d make a ferry, not a warship.
“That ship accelerated to the speed of sound at sea level, 320 metres per second in about 150 milliseconds, just above half the amount of time it takes for an Imperial to respond to visual stimuli. You couldn’t see it, but I think I’ve made my point.” Pontus announced with his hands in his hoodie pockets.
“What defensive capacity does this ship have in case brother dearest attempts to kill us?” Styx asked, readjusting her dress, patting out the imperfect ruffles left by the shockwaves.
“Let’s hope Pallas doesn’t try to find out, it’d kill the fun.” Pontus muttered as the ship descended mutely. The only sound it made as it landed was the sound of wind shuffling and the grass it displaced on landing, presuming it wasn’t floating in place. She stepped into a cosy, if compact room. The roof was a bit tight for her liking, if she hopped, her horns would catch on the ceiling, but she suspected that the human hadn’t designed for her kind before. There was a couch, or beanbag, she couldn’t decide which, that she sat on and looked at a screen across from her. It was showing some news feed from Olympia.
“Is this live?” She asked to Pontus, who was just about to enter what was likely the only other compartment in the shuttle.
“CTC lane can show you the news before it happens, if you want. Kinda ruins the fun though.” He answered casually, waving her off before pulling a mechanical lever to open the door. Styx took the moment of solitude to survey the compartment. It wasn’t exactly spacious, but she had enough room to stretch in if she needed. The floor was a darker shade, almost completely opaque. Wouldn’t want anything taking a peek, he’d thought of that. The rest of the room was like this too. The walls were also that pseudo-glass, transparent in selective patches to function as windows. Pontus was still standing at the door up until now.
“Look out, we’re taking off now.” he said, leaning towards the window beside her couch. She looked out to see the ground slowly draw away from them at first, then speed up. She didn’t feel any inertia. By the time they were in space it occurred to her that she was experiencing a constant 1g.
“1g. How is that possible? I see that the cabin is aligned along the direction of travel, we should be pressed against the far wall. How are we not?” Styx pondered. The smile of an excited nerd drew itself across Pontus’ face. Was he a scientist? Or something else? She couldn’t nail him down as any kind of professional, with how casual he constantly is.
“I’ve fields pressing against our individual atoms, you’ll feel no inertia. Those fields can compress matter close enough for fusion with ease, so we’ll be experiencing a comfy 1g to the floor even in deep space. The FTL drive is similar to yours though, hyperspace takes far too many cores to comfortably calculate for a shuttle this size.” He prattled off with a casual flick off the wrist for body language, before spinning on his heel towards the cockpit.
“I’ll let you know when to be ready, so until then, relax. You’ll know where to find me.” He announced, promptly closing the door.
There was another compartment that she opened the door to. It was a toilet. Something about a toilet being here was the funniest thing in the world to her. A precursor with a ship handling thousands of metres per second acceleration? Metamaterials withstanding direct nuclear strikes? Easy.
Toiletries? Real shit.
As Styx laughed to herself, she realised she was loosening a knot in her chest she didn’t realise she had. She felt that lack of tension in herself, and let it be until Pontus told her it was time to go meet her brother.
That's a wrap folks, I've been so late to write this chapter bc I couldn't decide until a while ago how the hell I wanted to write Pontus. I swear, I wrote 2 different chapters before settling on this. It's all in that damn dialogue. I haven't forgotten the story, but in the coming week I'll be entering college. I'll have less time, but I also am not playing that many games recently, so that's more time to binge PBS Space Time do exquisite writing in my normal diligent manner.
Once again, sorry for the tardiness, I'm definitely writing. I swear.

2020.09.20 23:09 Scrafty97 23 [M4F] #Newburyport Does any girl on here wanna take my virginity

(I copy pasted this from my RAOBJ post, I’m too lazy to write a new one lol. My bad if that’s not allowed)
Hi there,
I feel a bit goofy posting on here again, but oh well lol. Honestly I’ve been occasionally posting for about a year or so; probably not something to boast about but yeah. The post is male 4 female so it should be obvious, but I might as well make it clear now that I’m totally not into dudes (sorry dudes). Still not totally sure how I should go about writing these types of posts. Is it best to just keep it short and simple? Or maybe just write a whole essay, who knows. I’m sure linking a picture of myself would boosts my chances of getting lucky, but i don’t wanna risk someone IRL recognizing me lol. Anyhow, imma just type away, sorry if this post is a mess.
I should quickly note I’m not actually in Boston. I’m located roughy 45 minutes north of the city. Pretty much on the NH border, by the water. I just figured most people would search up Boston. Honestly w/ that description I might as well just say the city but I’m trying to stay somewhat anonymous for now lol. I can’t host atm, so if you can that’s great! If not I’m down to just do it in a car maybe or we could try to figure something out.
Since appearances are pretty important I should probably get to that huh. I’m a white guy w/ a pretty average build I’d say. Honestly it’s leaning more towards athletic but yeah. I’m 6 feet tall and 180ish pounds. I have brown hair & eyes. My hair is longer than average, but it’s not crazy long it’s just very thick lol. I get complimented on my hair pretty often, so I’m hoping you like it too. In general I’ve been told I’m a pretty attractive guy. Not sure how many details you want about my body but I’ll try to paint a picture of myself. I have broad shoulders and a lean waist/stomach. Toned arms, muscular back, nice legs/ass. Honestly I’m pretty insecure about my chest but apparently it’s normal/even attractive. I should say I’m not ripped or anything, it’s just an ‘average’ build but it’s also athletic. Not sure if that makes sense lol.
I consider myself to be a pretty anti social person. I’m a recluse, and I really only talk to one person on a daily basis (online friend). I personally don’t like calling myself anti social tbh. I know I just did so I sound dumb lol but it’s the easiest way to describe myself. Plus it’s how people on the outside would describe me - which I totally understand. I’m technically a selective mute. In which if I’m comfortable around someone I talk, if not a ‘can’t’. It was drilled into me during a rough childhood to never talk back, never speak up, and that my voice was the worst my parents had to endure. When I didn’t talk, I was safer and everyone was happier. I also have severe social anxiety and I’m really depressed. I have panic attacks just thinking about having to enter a situation in which I would have to talk to someone. I avoid doing most things because of the anxiety, even dumb stuff like going to a restaurant or a lot of stores lol. For example I don’t wanna go to subway bc I don’t know how to order something lol and the anxiety just kills me inside. I know this stuff is just depressing and not fun, and it probably doesn’t belong in a post about wanting a blowjob lol - but I figured I might as well tell a little about myself. And who knows, maybe you can relate to me and we can talk about it/help each other.
It’s not super relevant to this specific post, but I am a virgin. Not to make excuses but the stuff I mentioned before is probably why I still haven’t had sex. I just have a really hard time putting myself out there. I’ve never really had friends IRL, and obviously I haven’t been in a relationship. I did have a friend back in high school, but even then we really only talking in school. I did get lucky last June. It was actually a week or so before my 22nd birthday (best gift ever). I had jury duty that week and this girl I knew happened to be close by. We made out in her car and she gave me head. Honestly I had a super hard time finishing, but I figured it was because of nerves? I’m not sure tbh but I’m like 99% sure it will be fine this time around. That’s all my experience with a girl btw, I kissed her and that’s it lol - just a fair warning, I’m probably not the best kisser. I totally wanna get super good at it though.
I should say I am trying to work on myself. I try to stay positive/optimistic (hence this post lol) and I’m trying to put myself out there more. Even basic stuff like trying to talk more and Idk, it’s tough but I’m hoping one day I’ll be “happy”. I know friends/a girlfriend won’t make me any less lonely, but I figured it can’t hurt lol. I should try to say some positive things about myself huh. The whole no talking thing does me a GREAT listener lol. I will make you laugh. I do have a puppy, so maybe you’ll get to meet him one day or at least receive lots of puppy pics/vids. Um but yeah I do like myself, I think I’m an interesting/fun person. I’m passionate about lots of different things, and I love learning. That does sound kinda cliche but yeah. I am a wicked cuddly/affectionate person too lol, although I’ve never cuddled w/ someone (I really really want to). I’m a super caring/sensitive guy. This post is going on sooo long I’m sorry, I should probably try to wrap this up. I’m super impressed if you actually read this whole thing.
Thank you for reading :) I’d appreciate it if you upvote so more people can see this post 🥺

2020.09.20 22:42 mylilthrowitaway My(22F) father (54M) bullies me and refuses to get help. How can I have a functioning relationship with him?

I am currently a senior engineering student. Since our schools turned to online, I planned to stay at my university's town where my father lives. My father and my mom(45F) have been separated and divorced for 9 years. I testified for my mom when I was 13, saying they fight a lot and it is good for them to divorce. Ever since, my father has been hostile against me. I cannot even count how many time he made me cry, bullied me and yelled at me, saying it is my fault that they broke up and if i hadn't testified, they would be together. That is a huge lie considering my he and my aunts have been also belittleing and bullying my mother since they got married(we lived with them->me, brother, father ,mom, 2 aunts and grandfather from my father's side). He even broke her chin at my birthday, just because my mom called him and told him to come home. My grandpa was the one who asked her to call him, but that didn't stop him from kicking her in the face.

He always fights with me, I try to tell something, he doesn't listen, he curses and tells me bad things, I cry, the next day he acts like nothing has happened. I got sick of this cycle as I grew older. I have been staying here for the last 3 months, and I tried something else. I talk back, if he doesn't listen I also don't listen to him. If he cuts my sentence, I cut his. I refuse to do things if he doesn't ask nicely. I sat down and talked to him about these and how he should behave, and he still opens up testifying issues. Zero progress. I told him many times now how he needs psychological help. He accuses me of thing he had made up in his mind. Such as my smartphone was a gift for testifying against him. I broke that phone when we were returning from court by dropping it facing the asphalt. The interior screeen shattered. It was an accident. 8 years passed and he still think my mom got it as a gift.

Currently, he is bullshitting me about how I do nothing around the house(I do) and how I am nothing but extra mess around the house(I am also your daughter but who cares right). He says the dishes needs to be done before he comes home. He comes around 9-10 pm. I eat around 7-8 maybe 9. Today I had a meeting at 9 so dishes were left to do after meeting. When it ended at 10.30, I cleaned them but it still isn't enough for him. It is just his rules or nothing. The school starts at 5th, I am guessing he is trying to tire me out to go back to my mom's house. I hate that city, I have no friends there and all my life is here. I also can go stay at a friend's(23M) house, but considering he is a male he will make it into a huge fight. I need help as to how can I try to approach to him. What can I say or do? I can also give specific examples and sentences about how he behaves in the comments, this post is long enough already.
Thx for all the help
